I know we are all glad they decided to keep Walmart from selling gas, nothing like having another Newcomb Five Star to buy gas from, since they control the gas in Columbia already, that was the one thing, I wanted Walmart to put in was gas pumps, but want happen.

Flabby-o I know what you mean it saddens me that I have small children and I cant show them the curve that I broke my arm on when I was small and so many other changes in Columbia make it hard to believe that this is the same town as it was in my childhood. Then again I am glad to see progress in this town as it was horrible for a teenager trying to find something to do...

That is true I know for a fact that he made them agree that they would'nt sell gas because he was planning on selling it.

Nope. No tire center either. Don't want to give the locals competition. And don't blame Don Franklin. He is not the one who has negotiated with the buyers.

I for one will continue to do my trading in Campbellsville, all this town knows how to do anyway is try and get more money for taxes, no one that lives here should spend one cent with these jerks, Newcomb controls and owns all gas in Columbia, except for Gate and Junior foods, and yet all you people will continue to trade with Newcombs, they have screwed every body over on their gas prices from day one, we are usually the highest town around on gasoline, The people that run this town don't want any industry here, this Walmart deal is proof of that, Ford garage might lose some business, and his brother-n-law might lose some tire trade, see it all works out now, doesn't it?

yeah it was a lot better then.It seems that people around here think if they could only get a steak house,That all their problems would be solved. That a lot of company's would hear about it and say,hey did you hear columbia has got a steak house now,we've got to build a plant there. What brings new factory's in is county's offering tax breaks to them, and a ready made work force. But this county has never been willing to let anything come in unless they could get their hand in it,so there you go.BUT NOT MUCH CHANCE OF THAT HAPPENING ANYWAY,SINCE MOST NEW FACTORY'S OR GOING OVER SEAS anyway. And why had you people rather see wal-Mart have the gas business in this area instead of newcombs, look at all the small business's that that greedy corp.has already put out of business around the U.S.AND DO YOU KNOW THAT 90PERCENT OF THE JUNK THEY SELL IS MADE OVER SEAS,MOSTLY CHINA.But if columbia could only get a steak house that would solve all or problems. Some people may call that progress. But i call it a dam shame.

You have to be kiddin me. No Gas at the new Walmart? That truely is sad because you are correct Newcomb oil or better known as FiveStar controls all the fuel prices here and the other counties like Greensburg that doen't have a SuperWalmart that sells fuel. Oh well you know what they say, The Rich get Richer and we will just continue to help them get that way. We need someone to come in here and compete with them like Bill Collins did when he owned BP. But what do you do, you have to have fuel??

If everyone STOPPED buying from NEWCOMBS it would get their attention, GO to GATE or JUNIOR FOOD that would be a start, but no that want happen, we must trade at five star, westside, and the one across from gate, and as long as you trade with them you are supporting Newcomb, don't say it can't be done, because I for one in this town, have not bought anything from Newcomb in over a year, I fill up out of town every where I go, and if I buy in Columbia it is from Gate, no where else, Gate has 2 stations in Columbia the other on 55N so I have no reason to buy from Newcomb, and if the rest of you felt like I do, he wouldn't sell any in this town.

Thats right he owns stations in campbellsville but the gas a lot of times is 10 cents cheaper or more if he can do it there he could here also but he knows he has no competetion but there he has wal-mart and kroger also.

JUST THINK WHEN YOU ARE OUT OF TOWN GET YOUR GAS

What happen to the rumor about cracker barrel
I guess that is not going to be either I think it would have been a wise decision for us because of Cumberland parkway and surrouding counties would have came in to support it more money coming in would have been a plus for Adair Co. But I guess the ones that are in control does not want that for us.

There is nothing illegal about deed restrictions being put upon a piece of property. Walmart does it upon the shopping centers that they have closed. Each buyer has the option of saying no. No one is forced to buy a particular piece of property. There is plenty of land on the other side of the cumberland and down the other roads.

Usually the deed restrictions are put in by the people leaving the site to protect their interests. It would be quite the feat to reach an agreement that Wal-mart would agree to, with those type restrictions....typical columbia...stick it to the little guy. Never had anything here but a few families with money that controls anything of any importance.

I was a life long resident of Adair County until several years ago when I moved away I have no regrets. I would never move back there. I did not realize until I moved away how little Adair County has to offer. I assure you super Wal-Mart is not going to solve the problems there. As long as the same bunch have there hands in everything you can expect only a certain few to prosper.
