I have had mixed emotions about this topic. And have been a Versailles resident for 21 years.

I would actually like to commend Versailles Police in this post for this simple reason.

Versailles Police officers seem to RECOGNIZE AND RESPECT gun rights (VIA Constitution and State Statute).

I understand it may be disturbing for others to see me openly carrying a firearm. I also understand with recent shootings worldwide that people may become concerned or alarmed at the fact I am openly displaying a firearm.

However. I would like to explain that I do not do it because I wish to make a statement, or because I feel the need to cause a disturbance. However I am in the process of obtaining a carry concealed license and do not have one yet. Therefor, BY LAW, If I do carry, it must be openly displayed.

With all this being said. Training to apply to become a LEO, I run about 3-4 miles every other night with my firearm between 12pm-2am downtown Versailles. I have gotten a lot of weird looks from Police officers patrolling the area and citizens driving. However, I have not been stopped or questioned for doing such.

I was also pulled over for the infraction of driving without my license plate being illuminated. I was very well respected as a tax payer and Police supporter and was not harassed about the guns in my vehicle due to prior notification of the firearms on hand, and acting in a safe manner.

--------

So.. All being said. Thank you Versailles Police, for recognizing myself exercising my rights as a citizen.

If you're carrying a firearm, I do recommend going to a carry concealed class and educating yourself for the safety of you and others around you. Please be responsible.

Also, if you are pulled over for anything, or are being investigated of a crime. Stay calm, and inform the officer you are carrying a firearm.

So, probably safe to say the OP is a cop, probably same as the 2nd commenter. Or just a wannabe based on the "Training to apply to become a LEO", comment. The other is, what a moron "I run about 3-4 miles every other night with my firearm between 12pm-2am downtown Versailles". Who jogs/runs with a firearm!?! This isn't Detroit or Gary! Long story short, this person is a mental patient and/or a cop, and made no point!

The OP (original poster) is me. I am a Service Center Manager in Frankfort Kentucky, and CEO / Co-Founder of a mechanical store in Midway Kentucky.

I would love to become a law enforcement officer, however this post has nothing to do with me.

I am commending the officer(s) who recognize the right to bear arms LEGALLY.

Simple as that. And Versailles Police has shown they understand and recognize these rights and should be commended for doing so.

If I decide to own a gun, that's my choice. I think you're honestly foolish not to carry one. If you're going to own one, what would be the right thing to do? Never take it anywhere? What would be the point of having it?

Wait until 4 guys that think they're hood rats try to kill you over a pair of shoes and say "Hold on let me make a phone call, or walk to my car to grab my gun"

No.

You would think carrying one into a movie theater would be stupid? But it would have saved so many lives from the shooting.

There are even schools where teachers are armed.

The highest crime rates in the world are Detroit and Baltimore. 2 Gun free zones.

It may be funny to you, but people were jogging a marathon and someone decided to bomb them in Boston.

Shit happens, this is a crazy world. I would rather have a gun, and not need it. Than to need one, and not have it.

And I feel sorry for the misguided people in America that believe differently. It just makes you that much easier for anyone to rob you, steal from you, or try to hurt you or your family.

As for me, I'm good. I have one everywhere I go. 17 in the mag and 1 in the chamber. And honestly, I hope I never have to use it, ever. And this post, once again wasn't even about me. A lot of places in the world you aren't even allowed to carry. So I wanted to commend the officer who was professional, didn't make an huge scene for no reason.

You Sir are an idiot... Let me help you before you end up in trouble.

First off you cannot carry in a movie theater, its illegal, period, falls under place of public gathering law. Don't do it not worth it.

Second School teachers should not carry guns and be burden with the thought of killing someone. They instead should do what they have been doing and protect the students. Don't ever think that a teacher is not a hero with out a gun. What teachers have done during these shootings is courageous and heroic.

Baltimore and Detroit are not the highest crime rates. That spot is reserved for St Louis and Atlanta, both ironically in pretty liberal gun areas... Seems a strange coincidence more guns higher crime rates.(don beleive me http://www.usnews.com/news/slideshows/the-11-... ) Another tasty morsel of information in areas with more liberal gun laws, more people die by their own guns.

Now with that being said i own several guns i carry on a regular basis, but unfortunately i am not concerned with the crazy's and idiots wanting to mug me as they generally are not looking to kill me just steal i will happily give them my money and move on. Its the "good guys" with guns that scare me that will yank there toy pistol out at the nearest flinch of of a near by "thug" and start shooting without any thought to passerby's. I sir will be shooting that person. Maybe you need a reality check try this one for size very informative.

Furthermore if you have indeed taken the conceal carry course you know then would know that you cannot shoot and kill someone for the mere act of robbing you or your family. You can protect life that's it, you can only pull your weapon and fire if you are in danger of death.(reasonable fear) which does have to be proven. So if that robber has no gun and you have no blood drawn your going to prison.

Get informed.

Place of public gathering law? Never heard of it. In fact the Kentucky law is no federal building, school property, or place that serves alcohol. Remember folks just because any other business decides to put a no firearm sign up doesn't mean we have to follow it. It's not against the law. The only thing they can do is ask you to leave. If you refuse then it is against the law. But if you leave. Nothing can be done. Stay armed and stay safe. Remember one thing. When people call you paranoid for carrying a gun, they are crazy. There is nothing to be paranoid about when you are carrying your gun.
