okay for the person that called horst an idiot, obviously you don't know him very well, he works his butt off to please his customer's and makes the best donuts in town. he is a super nice guy that cares about his business that they have worked so hard for. yes i work for them and love my customer's and the ppl i work with. we all get paid the same and all try to work as a team, it only takes one person to make something negative.

It would be good if all you folks that made the negative comments knew the facts. From what I have read here all the employees make the same wage $7.25 & being a small business & bakery they multi-task & all share the tip money. What's wrong with that sounds fair to me! Name calling when you don't have the facts well some of you forgot your manners & crossed over the line of good taste.

Well every time I go down there I see one waitress busting her hump, and the cook busy in the back while the rest stand around and talk. Also the problems are not with the pay itís with the fact that the owner has now decided that the cook needs to make more and the waitress have to pay for it. Also concerned it's my understanding that he hilltop does not serve food they just sell Doughnuts. Kind of hard to compare to different style businesses. I am sure that the waitress's donít make that much in tips so go ahead and cut their pay down you will have to make up the difference every day. If you canít people what they deserve maybe you should not have so many people. After all you stated itís a small restaurant.

Thats y I quit down there. They dont treat people equal. Lets face it, if someone dont like you down there, they all gang up and change rules each day until it runs a good worker off. No one gets paid under 7.25. But they do make good tips sometimes and dont claim them ever. Now that is breaking the law. Also one day the owners wife will say the cashier and cook cant receive tips and then the next day they can. They never stick to the same rules. It just depends if they like you or not on what the rules are. Its nothing but childish drama downtown you would think you were working in a factory. I did work on the hilltop a few times and they do work hard up there. And they are a lot more drama free. So if anyone wants to work there I highly suggest working up on the hill. Angela and Jessica will make you feel welcome! Loved you both.

They never have anything you want. I called this morning at 4:30am and they had no cakes. I figured since it is a holiday they would have the show case filled. This happens everytime I call on a holiday. Instead the girl tells me they have none. I know she said she had no control over that but whoever does should have stuff availabe. You are a bakery. You would think that would be your busiest day and would want stuff up front available. I know the cake decorator and all he does is smoke out front while turning down cakes. If u ask me, that is time u could be doing them.

A good business owner would only cook enough to sell and no more. That's why you should pre order a cake if you know you need one. I know it would be nice to have a large selection but if they don't sell then they are stale and don't taste good. I would rather have a fresh cake then a couple day old cake. Hourst is a very nice man

Still no excuse for the smoking all day while on the clock instead of doing his job. They turn down cake orders and say call the next day to see whats in the show case. Like always, there is nothing.

There's a lady named Janet on Cameron Court (north of KY Ave, by Wal-Mart) with a sign in front of her house that says Cakes by Janet. Drive over there, forget that joke of a bakery and the drug users that work in there.

I had an employee tell me certain younger people involved with this place have prescription pill problems. This could be the root of many of the problems I am reading about. Anyone else heard these rumors?

Girl on top of hill has worst attitude ever. Girl with pink in her hair. She claims to also be a christian. Even though I know for a fact she voids and takes money. I was a customer sitting in there eating and saw her and another girl discussing. She then turned her key to void and took money out and handed to girl to go get her mcdonalds. Horst bakery should know better than hiring all these girls from prison. Also I thought you all were tip free? Then why did I hand her a tip and see her pocket it after it sat next to her register for a bit?

I loved working for them, as far as the feel of the place and the friendship and atmosphere, but there were always many problems with paychecks, hours, days working or decided not to work because of price of items/demand/waste. If I didn't have to pay bills I would have stayed, but after being cut down to maybe three hours a day work, I just couldn't do it anymore. To be around Horst, having him teach you things, and his awesome personality was so nice, but did not pay my bills. They have struggled a lot with things like that and being broken into, split between two stores. They have been dealing with a lot, and in my opinion this might just be something else they are going to try that doesn't last.

Also they completely try to make everyone happy on their complaints and pay, and have had problems trying to please everyone- especially ones that have been there longer or are a part of their family business. I often wish I could win the lottery to give them the money to make their business thrive. I so love them as much as the awesome doughnuts.

I was in the downtown bakery Friday, and a sign hangs freely that says no tipping... I wonder if people are getting tipped behind Horst back and then he would make that a practice. He is a fair honest man...
