Wow $6,625 in taxes on Long Island, no wonder Baldwin is the place to live.

Whoever wrote this article obviously hasn't been to Baldwin, LI. Maybe there is another town somewhere else in NY with Baldwin in its name? Take it from someone who grew up there when it was a nice community ... Baldwin LI is now nothing more than "Son of Roosevelt and Freeport."

Good time for those looking to sell.
While other markets are far softer Baldwin sales have been holding up.

1. White Baldwin homeowners just ordered lifetime subscriptions to Fortune Magazine - Now they can sell!

2. Using "diversity" as a factor is asinine. Who says "diversity" improves neighborhoods?

My apologies to good black families - but no neighborhood has ever improved with a large influx of blacks. Black neighborhoods = higher crime.

Sorry, it's a fact.

If you are a white person who hates what I just posted, I have a suggestion ... go buy a house in a black neighborhood! Diversify yourself.

Harvard sociologist Robert Putnam (very liberal) wrote a tremendous study alled "Bowling Alone". In it, he came to the depressing finding that diversity makes communities plummet

-less neighbors know each other

-less people vote

- less people go to church

- less people are involved in the scools

-less people donate money

Like it or not, communities that feel like it's "their" community (ethnic or religious) tend to be much more involved.

It's just amazing.

Make an argument about observable ethnic patterns - and all anyone can cry is "racism"

How about making an argument dipsticks?

Blacks make up 28% of NYC's population, but they committ 68% of felonies ACCORDING TO VICTIM AND WITNESS STATEMENTS (who are overwhelmingly black themselves).

Blacks committ a dispropotitonate number of crimes.

Black neighborhoods have higher crime rates than any other ethnic neighborhoods.

although i agree with everyone above that baldwin has gone downhill and yes there is a huge increase in black families, especially in my area of baldwin.. the biggest problem is the white ghetto kids in this neighborhood. every kid in baldwin thinks he's or she in a gang and baldwin high school is a nightmare. the girls think they're little bodiquas and sluts, the boys can't even form a sentence without cursing 5 times. the kids in this town are disgusting and the parents, non existent. they walk the streets day and night with no respect for the neighborhood, themselves, or anyone else. they vandalize and harrass business owners on a daily basis. every other home is for sale and as for the black families, there's a few low income housing apartments all around my few block radius. they are always outside with 20 kids, there's shopping carts, garbage, and piss everywhere. our main road, grand ave, is a mess. the plus side is that they're building a best buy and supposedly some other big businesses on grand ave. there are some great small businesses too like daze, kustom kulture, the psychic store, really cool little stores that are basically the only unique things in baldwin. that's basically all i can say, i love this town as my home, but watching it deteriorate is disappointing. i see all these old people in the herald and chamber of commerce websites and they seem to think everything's fine, but where are they when a kid gets robbed for his phone or his ipod by groups of kids that don't know any better. these things are happening more and EVERYday and someone needs to take responsibility whether it be the parents or the landlords or the officials of baldwin.

oh.. well i don't know why it says i live in oceanside, because i live in BALDWIN... right in the heart of this mess. and i forget to mention that i am absolutely SHOCKED that this town is #25.. that's insane. only cause of taxes i suppose, and that's just dumb.

Normally, when your hometown makes it to a list like this, you would be proud. I live in Baldwin, and everyone I've spoken to from here has simply scratched their heads. "There must be a mistake." "No way." "Obviously they didn't come visit here."

The sheer number of 99 cent stores, check cashing places, or businesses for sale should make people realize that Baldwin doesn't belong on this list. Wasn't there an attempted bank robbery here just a year or two ago?

If anyone could explain this, I'd love to hear it...
