The problem is why criminals in the first place. It would be cheaper to legalize pot than waste away productive people in jail. This town is not addressing the problems of poverty that breeds crime in the first place . Low wages means low tax income and more crime. We need a research campus more than a jail.
Ask Phil

Mike Smith will ask Phil Morgan how to fix the jail. Phil has all the answers and has met with the mayor who knows how to fix the county jail without any new debt......Tupelo nor Lee county have any answer to the high crime rate and all the Tupelo thugs who should be in jail instead of roaming the streets. The more blighted property that the mayor buys, the more thugs that are on the streets of Tupelo. Why does the city of Tupelo ignore the codes and ignore the crime rate? Which council person is holding the mayor hostage? Where is Shane Hooper's board meeting this week?

I like how the town sends the code enforcer (wife given job by her City worker husband) to warn about shrub height, yet when you car gets broken into itís not even a crime.
This screwed up little wanna be town donít need a 75million dollar tax paid hangout, look at the police headquarters, crime has quadrupled since that little slice of heaven was built.
They canít catch the criminals outside their department and theyíre not going to jail themselves, so who is going to wind up in it?
You.

The mayor and chief and sheriff have fixed the jail by releasing all the criminals back out on the street to rob and steal and shoot more people. Tupelo is a thug town and there is no fixing the jail. Why should the taxpayers in Tupelo pay taxes on county debt and then be double taxed paying the county for housing the Tupelo thugs. The working taxpayers in Tupelo have spent thousands on security systems and alarms for no reason. Tupelo has no jail and has no plans feed their thugs. The mayor has deemed that the Tupelo thugs are not economically feasible. Turning em loose in Tupelo. There is no but one fix for the jail and that will be the next election in Tupelo. The voters have had enough of the council and mayor playing games and wasting taxes.

The need to fix the county jail for the Tupelo thuds is secondary to the piles of dog poop that is frozen all over the neighborhoods yard in Tupelo where there are sidewalks to your neighbors yard and front door. Tupelo is known for its dog poop. Where do your dogs poop three times a day in Tupelo? Dog poop is know to cause the flu.

Thatís what they want you to think.
Their sick enough to let crime escalate so the taxpayers will give them their 75 million dollar jail.
They couldnít catch a car burglar for 8 years, or any other real criminals for that matter, has nothing to do with a nice new cozy jail to show off.
New Roof

Tupelo, MS

#7 Jan 8, 2018
The Lee county jail will soon be getting a new roof as approved by the county supervisors although the new roof was not included in the budget. This is the first indication that the supervisors are testing the water with the voters for other repairs and possible expansion. The new roof absolutely ends the sheriff's demands for a new jail. Did the sheriff request a new roof or did the supervisors simply ignore the sheriff again? The mayor was not interviewed by the daily journal nor was he asked by the supervisors for any of his great ideas for housing the Tupelo thugs in the dry. The leadership in Tupelo and Lee county are all on the same page. LOL

Voters may go for an expansion but they can kiss that $50,000,000 jail goodbye. The police department has a terrible relationship with the public and have for some time.
Jail Priority

Mr Smith said the jail was top priority and got a new roof approved for the old jail without a budgeted expense. Wow the priority is now approving the old jail and building the sheriff a new monument office pod for his retirement. The piecemeal approach to spending by the supervisors keeps the voters happier for re-election which is the most important issue for all politicians.

Do you think the board of supervisors agreed to replace the roof on the old jail before deeding the old jail to the city and Mayor? Tupelo's crime rate demands a city owned jail for all the thugs that are on the most wanted list in Tupelo. Tupelo is setting records for the crime rate increase each year..

A new jail is going to stop the crime just like the new police station... it didnít.
Crime actually went up.
Tupelo thinks spending money will solve a problem, it needs to fix core problems and can do that for free.

The United States is home to just 5 percent of the worldís population, but it houses about 25 percent of the worldís prisoners. Only a fool would would still think mass incarceration works. Typical government thinking, keep failing keep get more funding.

Death by hanging or shooting or lethal injection is only delayed for decades in America where the jails all have wide screen TVS and rec rooms and three squares each day. Check out the unabomber and ask him about solitary confinement for life instead of the death penalty.

Thereís no wide screen TVs at the jail, you should volunteer and see how bad the conditions are, if itís so nice why donít you go live there?
