Ottis Toole confessed to Adam Walsh's murder in 1983. He also confessed to many other murders of which there was simply no proof of his involvement. His crime partner Heny Lee Lucas similarly confessed to over 800 murders, and received the death sentence in Texas only to be pardoned at the recommendation of Governor George W. Bush because of serious questions regarding those confessions.

Ottis Toole was dismissed as a suspect years ago by the same Hollywood Police which now declare him the killer of Adam Walsh. The principal argument for his guilt appears to be solely John Walsh's own conviction that Toole was responsible.

In all respect to John Walsh, who has endured for more than any parent should ever suffer, it is not his call. There were and remain other suspects in Adam Walsh's death and the distinct possibility that at least one of them or possibly some unknown person has now gotten away with murder. Chuck Morton has it exactly right. The murder of Adam Walsh should remain an open investigation.

I agree. I think this was just a symbolic gesture to try and bring some closure to a horrific case. Thankfully there is no statute of limitations on murder so if the police stumble across something they can still reopen the case.

One must wonder how many more cases will the Hollywood Police Department close this way as a method of forgetting their failures?

i also agree that this may not be the person who committed this unspeakable crime that changed the lives of thousands of people forever. id guess they have no idea how far and how many people were affected by this. when you look at the walshs children, you can see what darling adam would have looked like if he had been alive today. once again my heart is breaking for these people and for the rest of us who never got to realize the full potential of this lovely boy and were scared to death for our own children. may adam rest in peace and the love a nation has for him.

This story sends chills up my spine to this day.

My heart goes out to the Walsh's for the suffering that this monster put them through.

Death was too easy for Toole.

I say this with all respect to the Walsh family. I can't imagine the grief they have endured the past 27 years. My heart goes out to anyone whom lost a child. However, something seems fishy to me in this case. The same man that was declared NOT the killer is suddenly declared the killer so the case can be closed. As I said before- my heart goes out to the Walsh family and I have nothing but the up most respect for John Walsh who has make his loss and grief work for the good and care of others. It takes a tremendously strong person to do that. God Bless all loved ones in this family.

How come there were 2 seperate eyewitnesses that saw a man fitting the description of Jeffery Dahmer, who lived in Miami at the time and drove a blue delivery van, Identify him? One man saw him yanking a lottle boy through the mall that looked like Dahmer and another saw the same man throw a kid into the back of a blue delivery man. The FBI investigator beleives it was Dahmer also. Is the Hollywood PD such an elite department that they can solve crimes after 27 years? The whole thing is tragic but I think they've gotten this one wrong.

..anyone think it's possible that they've finally come to a conclusion on this so the family can at last have the remains released to them so the child can get the burial that's 27 years overdue?

Last I read, what was recovered in Vero Beach has remained at the Broward County coroner's office all these years. The funeral in '81 was only symbolic.

Reading Walsh's book that included a twisted letter from Toole only solidifies the announcement that he was the animal who took that child's life.

Why did mom let him wander off to play video games alone? Where is her responsibility in all of this? Yes, she had to live with the guilt but i never heard her once say she wasn't keeping an eye on him like a responsible parent should. My children were all teenagers before i let them wander the mall alone and even then, they went in groups. I feel for this family, i truly do but i also feel a parent must take responsiblity for their child at all times.

First of all Heeh back then you could let your child run in the store because the people back then were not as bad as it was today. How many times did your parents leave you in the car to run in the store? Please I'm sorry not everyone is so perfect..
On to another point. God must have had something special planed for this little boy and a plan for his parents. If this would have never happend millions of children would not have the chance they do today when they are taken.
These people turned a something horrible into something they can be proud of. They are good kind people and god bless them.

I guess Hollywood's finest was too busy running cover for dope dealers and gangsters back in 1981 too.

Seems awfully convenient to name the perpertrator as some bone head who has been dead for years. They couldn't build a case against him then, how come they can now? More Hollywood PD efficiency?

I NEVER left my kids alone in a car or at the mall or in a store. I don't know what type of parent you are but if you don't take responsiblity for your child, they can get kidnapped. God has nothing to do with this. Get off your soapbox and face reality.

I don't think "closure" on something this horrific can ever be possible. John Walsh is inspirational in that he has taken this ungodly travesty and used it to redirect his life to help others and solve crime. It is also a testimony to him and his wife that they kept their relationship positive. God bless their whole family. The monster who did thhis should burn in Hell.

What a bunch of crap. This case was botched by the Hollywood PD and now they say they believe the sister of a serial killer with a 75 IQ? Hype, malarkey and a bunch of hooey. Hollywood cops have been on the take for YEARS. The Keystone Cops look better on film than the HPD does in real life. KMA HPD.
