CRUEL! My mother took her dog there and the fill in Dr for Dr Stewart was AWFUL! Within 2 hours of my mothers dog getting routine shots, he was bleeding from his behind, so badly you could smell the iron. Upon a follow up visit 24 hrs later my mother's concerns were brushed off as the dog underwent stress due to the shots.2 Days later his belly was blue and he was still bleeding. He was then moved to ICU at another vet office, had 2 Blood transfusions and this morning he died. Due to the lack of urgency this office had my mothers beloved dog at 8 years old passed away. my family is inconsolable and this office shuold be OUT OF BUSINESS! I would hate for this to happen to another family. DO NOT GO TO LIVE OAK ANIMAL HOSPITAL!!!

I am SO sorry to hear about your mother's dog. It must be heart-wrenching. I have been going to Dr. Stewart for a year after moving here from the northeast. Our wheaten terrier has a serious medical condition, Addison's disease and I feel SO thrilled to have Dr. Stewart heading up her care. She is thriving because of him. My father's 15 year old Yorkie is still thriving and alive because of Dr. Stewart. His staff members are EXCEPTIONAL and ALWAYS do whatever it takes to give us the best of care. Please don't badmouth an absolutely wonderful and caring practice because of your unfortunate circumstance. Medicine is complicated and what seems to you as negligence could be something that would have happened anywhere.
Live Oak Animal Hospital is a WONDERFUL facility and I am so grateful for their care.

I have to agree with Sara. Aside from the first poster, I have never heard a single bad comment about Dr. Stewart or any of this staff. My animals have received exceptional care. Dr. Stewart and his staff have called me after hours to check on my dog with genuine heart-felt concern. I would recommend them to anyone!!

~~ Wrong..NO dog should be bleeding with in 2 hours of shots. Something was seriously wrong. This practice did not take positive action, this was their client and patient. No dog goes thru "stress" with routine shots unless something is seriously amiss.~~ A rescue dog was just put to sleep there also. the dog had been in foster for a year with no bad behaviour, then was adopted out. The adopter took the dog here for an exam.it snapped. most probably due to to much happening all at once..and was PUT TO SLEEP!! Dog could have and SHOULD have been returned to the Rescue Organization. NO EXCUSE!! DO NOT GO HERE!!! YOUR DOG COULD BE NEXT. I hate one "man shows".. usually become so self absorbed and no back up opinion which could be vital.

The news is out, we finally know how bad this place is!! There was a dog that was rescued and a woman adopted it. She took it this office and the fearful dog snapped (but didn't bit the technician)and it was agreed between the woman and this Dr. Stewart that the dog should be put to sleep! The dog was like any other dog in that environment and if that's the first time they've dealt with that...hmmm...they have a problem, don't they? Why didn't this Dr. Stewart recommend that the rescue from which this dog was adopted, or any rescue for that matter, be contacted before putting him to sleep?
Oh, I got it! He is heartless and he wanted the $$$$. Not hard to figure out, is it?

He's another careless and heartless vet. Plain and simple... I wont go there anymore.

Doesn't Dr. Stewart remind you of the average animal control facilities where it's quicker and easier to put a dog down? Of course Dr. Stewart saw $$$ signs! He knows that most reputable vets would call a rescue and not give in like this, encouraging euthenasia.
I know of who this woman is. She's not poor either. He went along with her wishes when he shouldn't have($$$). It was 'quicker' to make the money than to have staff tied up calling rescues and trying to find one. And kennel space too. Although he should've called the rescue from which the dog was adopted from and that would've kept the dog alive, but he didn't.
Of course when you ask the vet office about it they say there's a different story from what you hear but of course they have to say something.

Maybe Dr. Stewart should read this new revised vet oath.

Dr. Stewart and his staff are professional, competent and caring. Dr. Stewart has been my dogs vet for 18 months now, and I couldn't be happier with the care she is receiving. I'm sorry for the people who have had a bad experience with Dr. Stewart and his office, but I'm getting a sense that nothing would be satisfactory to them. Dr. Stewart was recommended to me when I first moved to Vero and I would in turn recommend him to anyone who needed a qualified and caring vet.

I thought Dr.Stewart was a good Vet also! Until, my maltese needed a bladder stone removed!(a very common surgery on dogs). Well, 2 months post op and $5000 ++ it almost cost my Dog his Life! The dog had a Staph infection "traped" by a Pocket which was crated during stitching it closed! The Drug/suture company Warns Vet to do a tight stitching OR there will be complications/infections. I made over 10 trips to his office. Begging him to find out why Oscar wasn't healing. His answer? Oh he is fine. My dog could not hold his urine! Urinate every 10-30 MINS! He had so much inflamation that the Lining of His Colon was glued to his Bladder! THIS MAN SHOULD NOT BE OPERATING ON PETS and HE is the MOST Expensive vet in Vero! He charged me $1000 when FLorida League would have charged for the same surgery $300! I thought I was paying more for a much better service--WRONG! He is either in Vacation or in a Hurry to get you out! He needs to RETIRE! He hates what he is doing and shows he only cares about $$$$$ I may have to take him to court if he doesn't pay back the $3800 I spent to fix my Dog at the E.R!

What are you two morans? Or is Mommy and Daddy still telling you what to say? This Vet was sleeping during school, its real obvious he doesn't have a clue what he's doing and should be reported to suspend his lic. How cruel.

I wish I had read some of these post Before I took him to this "Vet". He "seems nice" but the man is INCOMPETENT! You are right! He was asleep in Vet.School! I called the Licensing Board and much to my surprise, No complaints on file! But that's about to change! I just downloaded the complaint form and I am speaking with two attorneys. He Bark up the wrong tree when he messed with MY DOG! We are getting ready to protest his Clinic to make other Pet Owners aware. How many more animals have to sufer before someone does something about it? I will not rest!!! We are the voices for these animals. He is a BUTCHER who refused to refer us to a specialist. Why? So we woudn't find out his botched job? Or was it to milk those Dollars for as long as possible? Charged me for 10 returned Visits!
He needs to be out of business! I wouldnt trust him with a Dead Dog!

"but I'm getting a sense that nothing would be satisfactory to them."
COLBY: You are Wrong! People have better things to do than to search the internet and write about Charles Stewart (i refuse to call him doctor!). I thought he was a Good Vet too Until he screwed up my dog to the point that almost cost him his life! I will be happy to meet with you and show you ALL the Visits I made trying to get my dog better! The file is pretty thick!! After weeks of paying stewart with no results, my angel got worse--he became weak. I couldn't waste any more time with stewart's guessing games. I took him to Florida League Vet on USA 1(BUSY place, but they have 5 doctors and altenate nights-weekends and Holidays--they are available in the event of an emergency! I could not get a hold of Stewart at 6 PM on a Wednesday! His answering service told me they are instructed not to call Stewart and refer all calls to the E.R place in Fort Pierce. I begged them to text him; All I wanted was to ask him if it was ok to give him a .25 Xanax b/c my dog was freaked out from the medication Stewart GAVE him! HE GAVE HIM A MED FIRST DISCOVERED IN 1940's! AND MOST VETS DON'T USE IT ANYMORE B/C IT HAS TOO MANY SIDE AFFECTS! THEY GUY IS INEPT!
*** WAIT UNTIL YOUR PET HAS AN E.R AFTER HOURS! GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!!! I DRIVE BY LIVE OAK EVERYDAY AND STEWART IS OUT OF THERE BY 5PM! THE IMPRESSION WE GOT IS THAT HE NO LONGER ENJOYS WHAT HE IS DOING! OR HE IS HAVING SOME SERIOUS PERSONAL ISSUES TO THE POINT IT IS AFFECTING HIS PRACTICE. MAYBE HE IS JUST BURNED OUT---IT HAPPENS! I BET HE IS TRYING TO SELL HIS PRACTICE BEFORE HE DESTROYS IT! After our bad experience, we started to ask about Stewart, my neighbor's girlfriend also had a bad exp. and many other people have told me the same. Word of mouth is everything and the word is getting around! I pray your dog/cat doesn't get seriously sick under this man's care!

I have been taking my pets to Dr. Stewart for over 19 years. He and his staff are caring professionals. Gone by 5:00 p.m.? Hardly!! When my cat was very ill and needed to be watched, Dr. Stewart took her home with him because he didn’t want to leave her at the clinic overnight! I have recommended Dr. Stewart to many friends—all of whom have been very pleased with him. Thank you, Live Oak Animal Hospital, for the love and care you have shown toward the four-legged members of our family!(Why is it that most of the negative posts appear to have been written by the same individual??)

My training clients love Dr. Stewart. He has saved the lives of many a pet in need of top level care. This top tier care is expensive because the practice needs to maintain sophisticated equipment to best diagnose and treat your pet. If everyone who was very happy with this vet practice wrote in here, you would need a week to read all the postive posts. It is a very sad day when a pet does not recover from a surgery or has a bad reaction to medicine, so we all feel for those who have lost a pet.

Dr. Stewart has looked after the health and well being of our 2 cats and a dog throughout their lifetimes. They're gone now, and our two nine year old dogs have been going to Live Oak since they were six weeks old. We've been going to Live Oak for twenty years now, and we've have never met a kinder, gentler, and more caring vet then Dr. Stewart. Most of his staff have been there for many years, and they're all kind and caring too. In all these years, I've never heard one single complaint about Dr. Stewart, and quite frankly, I have a hard time believing some of the things I've read here. I've sent many friends to Live Oak, and they're happy with the care their pets have received. My dogs will continue to go to Live Oak for the excellent care and treatment that I've come to expect.
