The Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife in Kentucky is proposing hunting the Sandhill Crane starting the next hunting season. They want to sell 400 permits allowing the killing of two cranes per permit. As you know, but most Kentuckians are unaware, the cranes mate for life and have a low reproduction rate with a nesting pair averaging only one surviving chick every three years. It's an outrage that Kentuckians can shoot down our beautiful birds on their migration route to Florida. Learn more about the issue at kyc4sandhillcranes.wordpress.com and please write your legislators, wildlife experts, etc. to encourge their support. Send complaints to Kentucky's Dept. of Wildlife Commissioner Jon Gassett (800) 858-1549 or write him at #1 Sportsman's Lane Frankfort KY 40601 before May 1st.
