Christian Blake said: "Mike was honest and said he could not cut African hair"

Actually, he didn't say that at all. He LIED and pretended he was not the barber.

And there's a little something called anti-discrimination laws that would prevent you from denying someone service because of color, you moron.

Nice try, but you come up foolish on all counts.

Mike the barber did not tell the doctor directly, to his face, that he could not or would not cut a black person's hair; he only said that after the fact by way of explanation. Please don't rewrite history, as you complain others do.

Right, left, or indifferent, Christian, please be mindful of language you use in a public forum, as I strongly believe we as adults still have some duty to model and embody courtesy and respect in print and in word for our youth.

Thanks kindly,

Bellows Falls doesn't need anymore negative press because the town is the biggest shit hole in the whole state. It seems that every person has at least one child, even if they are in their teens. And the town just looks like a hot bed for drugs.

Mr. Blake, your arrogance completely disgusts me. If you were a doctor and you refused to treat someone who smelled, well then maybe you shouldn't be a doctor. And that could quite possibly be the most perfect example of a red herring argument. Whatever you need to do to defend your closed mind, I guess.

So Blake, you suggest that the whole incident with Mike the Barber was an act of conspiracy by the ACLU and "Liberals" to "harass a small town and its barber". To what end? What possible motivation would there be to enact such a choreographed drama? Wow you are a piece of work.

Run along home now before it gets dark. That's when the liberals come out and they might get ya.

There are plenty of people living here in Bellows Falls that don't meet your ignorant generalizations, but it's cool, we find them mildly entertaining.

this issue becomes curiouser and curiouser.........if anyone caught the selectboard meeting last night, Mike came in quite irate at HIS TREATMENT in this incident. Perhaps he was 'innocent' of any racism or bigotry. He wasn't innocent of ignorance, however. And his first response of 'perhaps I didn't handle it well' is still his best response.
Now he's threatening to close the barbershop and take his ball and not play anymore. He's claiming our visiting black gentleman was perhaps setting him up, I'm willing to accept he can't cut black hair, but obviously afraid to say it out loud and would rather appear a bigot than a barber with that limitation.

And the selectboard chair was quite conciliatory to him. Surprise, surprise!..We will never know the truth! What we knew was the reputation of the Community was severely misportrayed, the appearance of Mike was one of a bigot, the appearance of our visitor was one of a professional doctor who was made to feel unwelcome and racially treated.

I for one attended the rally for PR for the Village...I never felt we would change Mike's attitudes or performance by standing outside his place of business. We would merely raise his and his friends ire. Which we have!

It was good to discuss the issue with people of like thoughts and Mike and the doctor's situation quickly moved to the more global issues of homophobia, sexism, diversity of all kinds and possible solutions. One person was even offended by people referring to themselves as 'natives' feeling it was offensive. It can be carried to extremes I fear.

For the most part I think this community is accepting and not a hateful place to be. Many people defended Mike in that we didn't know what actually happened. Perhaps he should have been spoken to face to face...perhaps, perhaps. I'm pleased the visitor will return. It can become a farce or a fortunate opportunity to put a good foot forward. Time will tell which it will become. Mr. McPhee quickly made it clear that he never said he would have him to dinner. I had to chuckle, I thought that it would be a golden opportunity for the boards to indeed welcome him, but alas he's now too hot a commodity and we might loose our barbershop if they did.

So, alas, it gets curiouser and curiouser how to handle our visitor and our poor put upon barber. Which is the victim, which is the perpetrator. Perhaps they're both victims, both perpetrators. Or are we all victims of our stupidity, ignorance,
meaning to do well attitudes, well, somebody done somebody wrong here.....'cause it's not turning out right and it feels all wrong. Anybody got any ideas? I dread to think what might happen when our visitor returns next month.

Maybe we could invite both him and Mike to a nice dinner? What do you think?

I saw invite the doctor and the village to a potluck dinnder at one of the local churces with a time of healing....AMEN

With all due respect, I take exception to negative portrayals of the village of Bellows Falls. There are -- have been and will be -- many wonderful creative, productive, down-to-earth folks who live, work, and share together in this village and surrounding area. The police work diligently to find and arrest those involved in drugs, as you'll notice from the latest sweep and arrests. Our high school football team just won Vermont Div III State Championship. A high school teacher was just named UVM's Outstanding Teacher of the Year; last year, another of our high school teachers was Vermont Teacher of the Year. One of our local doctors was the first holistic medical practitioner to be recognized in the State of Vermont. There are new businesses and eateries, lots of music, art, and sports, plus a great local FM radio station. There's plenty of active community outreach, engaging programs at the library, and new families choose to move here to raise their children. Maybe it's time for a visit to Bellows Falls, for a look around with clear eyes and an open heart to see and enjoy the good that is here.

Quite daring to criticize comment & then deliver your selfrighteous drivel. Comment which raised indignation just so happens to be accurate.'IQ size of shoe' came to mind as I read his typical ridiculous rant.

I think everyone knows quite well what happened, and the 'history' happens to be quite evident, also on record. We have a right to our opinions but not our facts. Kindly stop attempting to rewrite history yourself. I suggest the defenders & enablers take their 'clear eyes' & look in the mirror.

Bald attempt to hide behind youth to church up comment also reeks of selfrighteousness & failed, miserabely. Other comments dripping w/it as well.

'Take exception to negative portrayals'? I take exception to those who make false statements & proceed to act as enablers for reprehensible behavior. Defending the indefensible simply doesn't work.

Other ridiculous defenses include letter falsely claiming 'when cribbage board out, so is barber' a complete lie. I have asked customers so I know, and another blaming it on the 'politically correct police', now this. Setup??? Oh please.

Simply more of the customary ignorance diplayed by obviously full-of-himself Mr.Blake. Though arrogance routine for Mr. Blake, these full-of-himself missives on a regular basis stunning displays of pure folly. Hatred oh-so-obvious from the wording selected.

Have clear eyes & they are wide open! Many thanks for the eye-opener.

This letter's author and his Westminster West buddy who wrote a letter on this subject several days ago have a long track record of distorted facts, conspiratorial theory and self serving inaccuracies. It is not because they wish to fall short of being truthful. They merely delude themselves into believing their own thought disordered perception of events around them.In other words, neither can help himself. They will no doubt spew more, maybe on this but probably on the next episode of something or other.

Tell me about it. What we have here is a case of dumb & dumber, and it only has gone from bad to worse as everyone is saying anything but the truth. Now it's all 'poor me, us, him', all claiming to be 'victimized' by someone.

Despite its reputation which I don't give a damn about, I have always loved BF & have ties. Seeing the ppl who have made these comments has been disturbing.

All of the ridiculous excuses these letters have made are oh-so fefensive & as in the case of 'cribbage board man', not even believable. Gee, just how does one make a living playing cribbage all day.

Not about 'PC'. I'm sure as hell not. How about common decency. Nothing anyone has said nor the news about the meeting has given me any hope so I guess it is what it is, but I will not feel the same, as it stands now, but who cares I don't live there anyways. If they like it this way fine.

NSDis operating under the principle that the best defense is to put on a good the offense, which is really quite easy to do, If one allows it. The name calling and insult is a classic textbook example of that principle.

NSD has totally run out of any logical, or substantial things to say so off they go with the personal attacks.

The more they deny (Nixon Syndrome) and the more they name call and insult (Mc Carthy Syndrome)-the more they confirm, just what type of person they truly are!
