This is just a tragic situation ..... hey.... anybody else notice that the Courant won't allow comments on the "Prison Issues" ... could it be that the Courant doesn't agree with the bulk of the public opinion so they shut it down ???? Mmmmmmmmmmmm ...

yeah, saw that too. Probably grandma Rell did not like us criticizing her population control tactics. Noticed how late the guards were getting to the scene.

I agree, this is truly a tragic situation. I would hope he remains in that state. Depending upon how long they were married, realization of what he had done could push Mr Genesse over the deep end. I know that I certainly could not live with it!

They probably shut it down because of misbehavior by posters. There's no one to blame by yourselves.

If you want the forums to remain open, you've got to be reasonable.

Mr. Genesse will never be able to be restored to competency. The disease is horribly progressive and debilitating, both physically and mentally. He is in the right place for the duration of his existence. Reports and monitoring to the judge will serve no purpose other than complete breakdown of human function.

Its probably more due to the racism, personal attacks, and ridiculous blanket statements that undoubtably appear in large numbers whenever a prison/ minority-related crime article is posted. Some local papers have gotten rid of commenting entirely for similar reasons.

This is tragic, BUT, here is the the rub I have.

This man should have been in a nursing home and he and his assets would have paid for it. The TV news showed a nice home.

Now that he is being sent to a "nut" house, he will be warehoused by the state and taxpayers will bear the burden . His family gets to keep the house and all the assets.

Not trying to be mean, just stating the facts.

That poor old man, probably never did nothing wrong in his whole life, and they are actually trying to punish him?! I understand he killed his wife, however he was also trying to protect her from living the rest of her life miserable in a nursing home! We have all read the stories on how awful some of them are. Give the man a break! They had a beautiful home, and they had to of worked hard to get it, etc why would you wanna leave that to go to a dumpy nursing home? I would rather be killed too, shoot

Assisted living is private pay, not Medicaid. Sounds like they had money!

And there are some very nice nursing homes with dedicated caregivers. Do not generalize about this badly needed, and underfunded industry.

For every bad story you hear, there are countless other good ones. Would you buy the paper or watch the news if all they reported about were good stories?

Give me a break, you mean spirited creep! A tragedy occurs, and all you care about is who's paying for his care. The man is 85 with Alzheimers.

And you generalize about who's paying whom, but criticize anyone who suggests the nursing home industry is anything but wonderful.

You've got it exactly backwards, genius. For every good story about nursing homes, there are countless horrific ones.

Your comments on newspapers are as ignorant as the rest of your nonsense.

My thoughts exactly. How sad for the family. This is a horrible and progressively degenerative disease. It is not likely he will get better. But now to be in a ward with truly insane and disturbed individuals is also sad.

What a mean spirited person you are and you are not stating facts. First of all, if it was his house (someone stated it was not), his children would not get the assets, the state would put a lien on the house. My uncle had been put in the hospital in Fairfield Hills when it was still opened, some thirty years ago and they kept him three months.

The interest that accrued on the liens ate all the equity and when he died the state got his house. That's how it works. FACT.

I understand you don't want to pay for anyones care. What if he had gotten out and killed someone else; like a friend of yours or family? Would you not have preferred perhaps that he had previously been given mental health care? Even at taxpayer expense?

You really don't know what you are talking about. You're like the Bill O'Reilly of this forum, just throwing out stuff you make up.

I work for a doctor in assisted living and they do in FACT take Medicare. At this mans age, he has MEDICARE, not Medicaid. I work with them everyday regarding payment and bill them for their Medicare. So, check your facts again. You should stop posting your nonsense here.

What a cruel, empty person you must be. Criticize, no empathy and then make up FACTS.

Medicare is for health coverage, not generally used for this type of care. Medicaid is the program that covers long term care. Not age dependent, it is need dependent based on income and assets.

Medicare does pay the 1st 90 days--after that, Medicaid. And, every state is different. Also, this is for nursing home care. Look it up. Assisted living for Alzeimers is not reimbursed by Medicare as you state.
