I have had the same issue with Sussex. My transponder is broken and the town is in litigation with the manufacturer. They leave me a yellow tag on teh door. If they do not get it back quick enough they "make up" a number (i.e. 100000 gallons) which created 2k water bill. They told me the mayor told them to make up a number (At the time it was Littel, not Parret) so I voted against her that year.

Overall the minumum bill is up to 300/qtr because of leaks in the pipes going to the treatment facility. The town gets fined for overusage as the leaks create MORE flow to the facility. The town is nice enough to pass on the fine to us.

I hate Sussex, but cannot move at this time. I would tell this town where to go, but they are not only there already, they ARE it.

Sussex Boro charges crazy fees for water and sewer.$26.50 for every 1,000 gallons is UNREAL! My quarterly bill is never less than $700. Yes, cheaper property taxes, but they are definitely making up for it with the water bill.

We had a similar problem although the bill was not nearly as high. Our normal ~$60 water bill came in at over $300. I called to complain and they sent out a guy to check our reading. He said that our transponder was broken and they weren't able to get a reading so they "created" a number of gallons used. I wonder how many people don't pay attention to these bills and actually pay these made-up bills.

I think people should stop paying this water bills then what are they going to do shut everyone off my bill is between 489. and 600. and I have told them I will read the meter because they did an estimation and my bill was so high. My family is very careful about how much water we use why should we be punished because they hired people who did a faulty job on the pipes!!and now they have to repair them again....

HI I live in the town of Newton and my bills are so out of line with all of my neighbors by about $250.00 on the water and $175.00 on the the sewer? I have been to town meetings and had private plumbers into try to find the water leaks? they changed alot of the pipes etc. I feel the problem may be in the lines coming into my home from the street the town has not offered any help whatsover any outside suggestions are certainly appreciated. We buy bottled water and use very little water as possable,, either gallon water or 24 pk water. gal water for the dogs, coffee, drinking, it is incredible how the bill keeps going up on water that is bad for us. i know, its not the water, its the sewer,I still cannot believe that it is so expensive now. This is not a way to run a "business"

Sussex Borough, NJ has had an 88% cost increase in water and sewer usage over the past two years alone. This cost is increasing once again due to "Emergency Repair" costs starting 2/2012. I am not sure how you all can afford it but I can no longer handle the rising costs. It is time for all of us to stand up and let our voices be heard at our next council meeting or send a brief letter, as I have, to Senator Oroho seeking help for the residence of Sussex Borough. Our new Mayor would like to hear from all of us, not just those who have already been speaking on our behalf at every council meeting. The residences need to rally together for if you do not speak on your own behalf, no one can do anything to help you. Write a letter to Senator Oroho and request him to find a way to reduce the costs before we lose our homes. If it matters to you, write to Senator Oroho as I have to make him aware of the situation. Please do not think or assume he is aware of this. We need help at a higher level then our local body. Itís out of control but in our hands for if we keep quite and do nothing, we will end up with nothing. If we express our concerns, someone will hear us. Donít make excuses for not writing a letter to Senator Oroho. He needs to know if it truly is affecting other residence and it not just me. Good Luck, I want the best for all of you but I cannot do it without everyoneís help!

I think everyone has given up on just about everything. The towns, state, government, oil companies... We are all just hemorrhaging money faster than we can bring it in. Nothing changes.. This country is in a bad place right now and if fuel costs go as high as projected this summer we are doomed. Your water bill as you said is one of many problems. Taxes, food costs, highway tolls... There are only 2 classes of people left rich and poor

Just got my water bill and realized it was quite high from the last one. It was for Oct 2017 - Dec 2017 (typed on the bill). Called the town and was told that it was ACTUALLY for Oct 2017 thru January 2018! Got some bull excuse about the new meters that were installed. I asked why we were not notified and got the response, "Yeah, we probably should have". And, you can't argue with them as their answer is always the same, they turn your water off.
