I think those mayors and councilpersons who decided against imposing a real estate transfer tax during the boom years will fare well in the upcoming elections. Those towns and villages that cashed in with the real estate transfer tax and then incorporated the revenues into their budgets are facing huge holes right now. I know in my town, Palatine, the city budget is doing ok because they rejected the real estate transfer tax.
