Oh no! For several minutes, the masses of Lake County were unable to bask in the "Magic of Macy's!" and try on all of their favorite Alfani and Donald Trump styles. How did they manage?!

There you go again. Don't you people ever do anyhting but bash Macy's. It seems to me that most of you revered Field's like a godlike instituition. It was only A STORE!!!!!!!!!
In a few years there may be no department stores left and the shopping public will be forced upon the internet, or the likes of Target and Wal-Mart.
Is a Mercedes only a car? A BMW? A Mustang? A Rolls Royce?

Is Notre Dame only a big building?

To call Marshall Field's 'only a store' is as ignorant as calling the Taj Mahal 'only a tomb'. Or Fallingwater as 'only a house.'

Some people just dont get it. As any marketing expert will tell you, they do so at their peril.

The health department is finally doing its job and shitting dopwn and inspecting places ie Whole Foods, Dominick's etc that have problems. I worked at Field's in the 80's and there were plenty of fruit flies and even live mice running around the store and in some instances on the sales floor. We had live mice caught in traps waiting to be picked up. The city hardly ever came to inspect and the builsding is old and very easy for flies and rodents to get into. No matter how hard they tried it was almost impossible to keep the fruit flies and mice away

Well thankfully they shut down Macy's State Street's location for three days in 2007 once inspectors discovered Macy's fruit fly infestation and food hygiene violations. Now all three customers will be a bit safer in making their food purchase choices.

Mr Spector or whoever you are. The way you revere a department store that has not even been run by the owners and the company it was formed for over 18 years is a little strange. I was extrmely upset about AB m, for reasons of a foreign company buying an American icon. Ab sponsors the majhority of American sporting eventts and emplys thousands worldwide. If a American company would have bought them out it would have been diffefrent, but I am accepting it and moving on. You and your fans seem to cannot accept the reality of Field's. Field's was a great store, but so was Wannamakers, Bonwits, Altmans, Gimbels, Hudsons, Daytons, Robinsons. Highbee's. Field's and Wannamekers were the best of the stores that are gone, but they are gone and at least another retailer has kept the doors open. Life goes on, get with it!!!!!!!!

It's so difficult to comprehend that you still just don't get it - not even a little bit.

The fact that there were any mice and fruitflies in the pre-macy's Field's does not mitigate what macy's has done in Chicago. The fact that the Field family has not been involved in the company for years does not mitigate what macy's has done in Chicago. The fact that other fine local stores have met their demise does not mitigate what macy's has done in Chicago. None of the petty potshots you take at Field's and us mitigate what macy's has done to Field's, Field's fans, and Chicago.

macy's has treated the history and memory of Field's and Field's fans shabbily, which previous Field's owners never did. macy's has earned our animosity bigtime.

Instead of continuing to repeat all the reasons why you think we're wrong, why don't YOU accept the fact that we have our reasons for hating macy's that YOU are incapable of understanding.

Why are you and a few others so determined to belittle our memories and sensibilities with your mean-spiritedness? You continue to hammer away with the same lame, irrelevant arguments. Why don't you give it a rest and move on?

Honestly, Mike 'or whoever you are'(Andy...), isn't it time for you to go to bed? Mom really needs to use her computer.

Go peddle your tired, discredited arguments on some other board when you're all bright and fresh tomorrow.

Pox, trying to plead and reason with a pathetic mind is pathetic in itself. Young 'Mike' is simply playing around with you. No one can be that obtuse. Stop wasting your time trying to reason with a game player. That only encourages it to prattle on further.

I figured out long ago that Mike and Andy were incapable of an intelligent dialogue about macy's and Field's.

I am not trying to convert Mike and Andy. My comments instead are meant to expose them for the incoherent, ridiculous, and deceitful macy's shills they are.

Plus, it's a way to fill the time during tv commercials.

Why are you posting?

I think we are just arguing with a bunch of idiots in Andy & Co. I only post so people don't think interest in the return of Field's has died out. And hello Frank, it's good to see you as always.

I was there and most people were still shopping seemingly oblivious to the flashing lights and prerecorded announcement to leave the building. I left through JCP and could smell smoke. We could not hear everything the announcement was saying but did hear "leave the building".
