This can't be true! The Messiah, Barack Obama has been in office for over three months. The Messiah would never let this happen. This is a Republican trick.

How is it that some employers like Zebra follows the law with notification and companies like Hewitt who has been laying off for the past three years and never is there a story about it?

Here's hoping that I'm not one of the 64. :-( Not quite the best time to be out of work.

Is 64 out of 3,200 a mass layoff?

Lay of 64? Sounds like the Tribune layoffs went a little deep - right through all those w/ proofreading skills.

Yo, Chicago Al - did you READ the ENTIRE article?
Notice that the total layoffs will be 600 out of 3,200... by Spring 2010.
That's 18.75% of the workforce - a pretty insignificant number.(I did the math for you so you wouldn't have to struggle so hard.)
Reason for lost jobs is not so much the economy -- Zebra has moved a majority of its product manufacturing to China.
Management: Let's send production out of the country - it's cheaper!
Result: a couple thousand people eventually out of a job. Now those people don't have jobs, and don't have the money to be consumers to buy stuff... companies that SELL stuff are now suffering, and it's the companies that SELL and SHIP stuff that use Zebra's printers to print barcode labels for their purposes. So they stop buying printers because their business is slow. Zebra isn't selling as many printers now and making as much of a profit. Hmmmm...
Now magnify this scenario across thousands of companies and millions of American workers, and you see why we're in this mess.
The minute this country started moving from a manufacturing and production country to a consumer and service country, our economy has been on a downward slide.

That should have been "a pretty significant number" - not "insignificant." Big difference...
