Don't be a fatty, and definitely don't join the army. Avoid those bad decisions and problems solved.
Fortunately for you our fine military has fought and laid down their lives for you to be able to say stupid things like that. Obviously you are incapable of being grateful. I only wish people like you could live somewhere like say China, North Korea, Iran or Libya and then maybe you would appreciate our fine military men and women. Nobody appreciates freedom more can those who have never had it.

That makes no sense at all. The military does not defend civil liberties, it defends the nation and government regardless of the form of that government, just like in the other nations you mention.

I truly believe that the Army are the scapegoats for this mother's grief. My heart goes out to her for her loss, but she shouldn't blame the Army recruiters. As a 20+ year Army vet, I can assure you that no recruiter would tell a recruit blatantly that they are "fat" and to go on an 800 calorie diet. That insane! They would usually would show the recruit the height and weight standards and would keep in touch with him/her and every 30 days re-check their weight to see where they are. I believe it was the young recruit's haste in losing the weight, combined with the mother's lack of support and supervision in the matter.
