I guess the oil companies aren't that well prepared as we were always led to believe.

The consumers of natural oil are the ones who are going to end up paying for this mess, with higher price of gasoline and oil base products.

I have an idea. How about using all the alternative methods of fueling cars, homes, etc., that have been available to us since the 60's? But of course, the greedy, immoral, uncaring, unconscious people who control the oil industry would never allow this.

Tough regulations and enforcement of them are needed.

"Currently, U.S. regulators do not mandate the use of the remote-control device on offshore rigs, and The Deepwater Horizon, hired by British Petroleum, didn't have one. In theory, with the remote control, a crewmember can attempt to trigger an underwater valve that shuts down the well even if the oil rig itself is damaged or evacuated.

When oil wells rupture and surge out of control, the primary shut-off systems almost always work. In the case of The Deepwater Horizon, the primary shut-off system failed to work. Indeed, remote control systems such as the acoustic switch, which have been tested in simulations, are intended as a last resort.

Nonetheless, Norway and Brazil, two major oil producing countries, require them. Production records indicate that Norway has had acoustic triggers on almost every offshore rig since 1993."

The elected guns in D.C. spew idioms like passing out candy at Halloween--- Ultimate Solutions, by Sec. Ken Salazar. All Hands On Deck--Janet Napolitano. Get Pres. My great great grandfather went to his grave due to the stress of being forced off of his land by Big Oil in the 1920’s. My great grandfather had 20 acres in Bucks Bay, which he worked as an oysterman and to provide a home and food for his two daughters. He went to his grave unable to earn a living after Big Oil had polluted his oyster bedding grounds. My grandfather also went to his grave after Bucks Bay became polluted by Big Oil. It takes 20 years to rebuild an oyster industry after Big Oil pollutes it. Now I sit here and after re-bedding the oyster grounds, and looking to providing the U.S. with clean and healthy oysters (because I am REAL BIG on believing that all Americans should have healthy food)- the Mickey Mouse politicians in the Louisiana legislature and Federal Government cut all sorts of side deals which allowed the oil companies (Chevron, B.P., Shell, Exxon, Texaco) to operate like it was the wild wild South-and I would be pushing 60 years of age just to repair the damage which has been down in Plaquemines Parish.
This was a collaborated effort of stupidity between Texas and British Oil Companies, Bush, Jindal, Vitter, Landrieu and Nungessor. The Oil Companies fund in these politicians and then the media lies for them. I knew one of the missing, now presumed dead, B.P. workers and for that British idiot to get on TV. and almost laughed over dead lives only shows that these people are sociopaths. They have been sociopaths for 80 years and the state, local and Federal Governments are so corrupt in America that even a foreign company can come in and kill Americans and it appeared that the U.S. Coast guard cared more about talking points for the Oil Company than search and rescue. When it is one of your friends missing in the Gulf of Satan you pay more attention and the U.S. Coast Guard searched for a mere 50 hours.
It takes 20 years to re-populate oysters on bedding grounds and this chemical, which they are flaunting as helping with the oil clean up is toxic, destroys Marine Life and THE OIL COMPANIES MAKE THIS CHEMICAL AND BUY IT FROM THEMSELVES. Louisiana politicians are corrupt and need to be held accountable. They were not in front of this issue.
So since America wants to “Drill Baby Drill” they can now “Pay Bi*tch Pay” Because being that B.P. is the 4th largest corporate Satan in the world, and the U.S. Government is owned by Big Oil (foreign and Domestic) then Obama needs to stop giving lip service and take care of these Louisiana fishermen which will never work again. The U.S. Government and Obama have nerve to wonder why Americans do not trust them??!! Look at their track record. Well how can men and women go from being independent seafood entrepreneurs for 100 years to now working for the Federal Government in cleanup efforts? That’s the scary thing. Just like Halliburton was all tied up in the U.S. Army Corp man made disaster aka Katrina they are once again affiliated and subsidiaries of British Petroleum! Something is wrong here!

As we all know, the British Petroleum sectioned off part of the Gulf of Mexico has not only taken the lives of 11 people, which were barely mentioned by public officials but has now cost the seafood workers and industry in lower South East La. State a whopping $2.4 Billion dollars.
The U.S. Coast Guard failed miserably when for 2 days they did a total of 20 press conferences and held about 50 meetings with B.P., to get together their talking points instead of searching for the 11 missing, so the reports that they searched for 3 days was a fabrication.
Due to Big Oil drilling and the exploitation of lower La. The entire La. Seafood industry has been under attack for at least the past 50 years. A week ago, B.P., State and Federal Officials knew that this spill was not going to be contained and yet they still didnt acknowledge that there even was a leak. A few days ago the oil spill had already reached the size of Maryland and the La. Gov Piyush Jindal, still didnt declare a Federal Emergency. Yesterday it was almost the size of Vermont and the La. Governor still didnt declare a Federal Emergency. Today the Gov. did declare a Federal Emergency but the oil spill was already 20 minutes from the shore. In the mean time, the bays and bayous have been devastated beyond repair (estimated 3 years of recovery time-AT LEAST) and the Louisiana fishermen and lease owners are once again taking a huge economical/environmental hit due to this being open season.
President Obama held a press conference in the White Houses Rose Garden where he even cracked a joke with reporters about the oil spill in La. Which has turned out to be the worst oil spill in U.S. history.
The B.P. CEO got on television and smirked while talking about this important matter and claimed no responsibility.

If the people of the US would stop wasting so much fuel they wouldn't have to drill so much.

Bush - BP - Cheaney - Haliburton - Palin - Drill Baby Drill...Enough Said.

Unlike what your party has been telling us for years, There are major environmental risks involved with drilling. Where is Sarah and Michael Steele now.
