Newt Gingrich: "Like Viagra for the National Psyche"

Newt definitely isn't interested in rational problem-solving, writes The Atlantic's Conor Friedersdorf, and his fascination with moon colonization reveals why.

Friedersdorf hones in on a revealing moment in which Gingrich defends his "large" visions:

"The reason you have to have a bold and large vision is you don't arouse the American nation with trivial, bureaucratic, rational objectives."

"That is telling," says Friedersdorf. "Problem-solving isn't [Gingrich's] object. He aims, as he tells us, to arouse the American people."

Friedersdorf riffs on this to create a "bold" slogan for Gingrich's campaign:

"Newt Gingrich -- he's like Viagra for the national psyche." (Side effects may include nausea, bigger deficits, self-aggrandizing speeches, foreign wars, demagoguery against Muslims, ethics scandals, and shameless demonstrations of moral hypocrisy. Not to be combined with actual executive power.)

Weigh in: Is Gingrich right - should the president excite Americans with bold visions, or focus on the nuts and bolts of problem-solving?

This Gingrich is like Benny Hill but it is very vitious and harmful form.
and Romney could be comparised to some kind of Mother Theresia of all possible speculators and pro-war lobbysts. Bot solutions are very harmful for USA and globally.
The only solution is Ron Paul, he is good, normal, honest and wise politician.

Right.

GingRICH works the name Reagan many times into every one of his speeches - you would think GingRICH gave him one of his kidneys- he Reagan mentioned GingRICH once in his autobiography.

The only person GingRICH mentions more often than Reagan is himself.

To know GingRICH is to dislike him, and GingRICH isn't going to be able to hide from his legacy.

His billionaire mentor may be able to buy him three weeks of ad time but he won't buy him the nomination.

A person uses examples they are familiar with.

This man is about a Presidential as a head of cabbage. No wait, I'm disrespecting cabbage.

C'mon, you know you want to laugh out loud at Newt, you just can't bring yourself to laugh when the left laughs.

How bout give us your comments on Newt's comments?

See if you can do it by not saying "Obama" and while staying on topic.

Newt's a pompous fool who think's his supporters are
A - forgetful,
B - too young to remember him as Speaker
C - too old to remember him as Speaker
D - or they have the integrity of an old racist ba$tard

The GOP old guard speaks:

I have not been critical of Newt Gingrich but it is now time to take a stand before it is too late. If Gingrich is the nominee it will have an adverse impact on Republican candidates running for county, state, and federal offices. Hardly anyone who served with Newt in Congress has endorsed him and that fact speaks for itself. He was a one-man-band who rarely took advice. It was his way or the highway.

Gingrich served as Speaker from 1995 to 1999 and had trouble within his own party. Already in 1997 a number of House members wanted to throw him out as Speaker. But he hung on until after the 1998 elections when the writing was on the wall. His mounting ethics problems caused him to resign in early 1999. I know whereof I speak as I helped establish a line of credit of $150,000 to help Newt pay off the fine for his ethics violations. In the end, he paid the fine with money from other sources.

Gingrich had a new idea every minute and most of them were off the wall. He loved picking a fight with Bill Clinton because he knew this would get the attention of the press. This and a myriad of other specifics helped to topple Gingrich in 1998.

In my run for the presidency in 1996 the Democrats greeted me with a number of negative TV ads and in every one of them Newt was in the ad. He was very unpopular and I am not only certain that this did not help me, but that it also cost House seats that year. Newt would show up at the campaign headquarters with an empty ice-bucket in his hand -- that was a symbol of some sort for him -- and I never did know what he was doing or why he was doing it.

In my opinion if we want to avoid an Obama landslide in November, Republicans should nominate Governor Romney as our standard bearer. He has the requisite experience in the public and private sectors. He would be a president we could have confidence in.

Yea, I can envision that lunar colony of thousand of little Newts running around with their mistresses, and wives celebrating "Lunar open marriageDay "

Lunar Opened Marriage Day would be the biggest holiday on the moon, and of course Newt would be the first president of the moon.
