New computer in an Aiken Department of Public Safety police car

Full story: WJBF-TV Augusta

This system cues the dispatcher after a certain amount of minutes, if they've not heard from them after they've been out on a call, so it cues the dispatcher to check on them, and it's just a tremendous safety feature. Aiken Police hav a a new and faster way to keep you safe. Aiken Department of Public Safety is one of two departments in South Carolina to have a kind of super computer in their squad cars. via WJBF-TV Augusta

This is a good thing IF the equipment and software are up to the challenge AND upgradable. The cost, as stated, is okay considering what a life or three are worth (both in human terms and financially). And it should even pay for itself in better efficiency allowing deputies to respond to more calls per hour (I trust this will not be an excuse to eliminate on-the-street officers). Computerization of tasks can be helpful, or it can actually add to the workload depending on the quality of the planning and execution, and the ease of the ability of the users to learn to operate them. I only hope that regular police officers were involved in the design and not just engineers.
I was one of the unlucky workers who was handed a gee-wiz system designed by engineers only. It was supposed to make my job easier, but only added more work and frustration. Let's hope that this deal is different.

It depends on what you consider a newcomer. I have been here 8 years and find the lifestyle very laid-back compared to where I left. And more affordable. Please don't be so mysterious. Do you have something to say, we'd all like to know.

Mysterious? What the hell was mysterious about what I posted? If I have something to say, I will come right out and say it, make no mistake about that. There will be nothing between the lines in case you are trying to read something in to what I posted. Anyone with minimal knowledge of the English language should be able to read what I post without seeing any mystery therein....unless there is paranoia at work. No offense intended.

Don't get your bowels in a twist. It just seems strange asking these questions without revealing why you'd like to know. Communication works best if it's two-way. The story is about computers in police cars here in Aiken, it's not about me or my relocation here. Read what you wrote and you may see my point of view. I can be as polite as you can be to me. Do you want to start over?

Don't be too alarmed at this. Aiken is all about shooting the messenger particularly when they have a valid point to make. They always want to talk about what someone said or what someone is doing, rather than just reading the facts and going about their own business. That's why they call it the bible belt!!!

Daily Horoscope for December 31

Aries

Someone wants to go their own way today and they won't care whose feathers they ruffle in the process. It's a lunar eclipse at the Full Moon in Cancer, so let them get on with it. The last thing you should do now is to hang on to their coat-tails or do anything else that will make them feel restricted. Make it plain that you've got your own fish to fry, thank you very much. And try not to let it stop you enjoying yourself. Have a great night!
