2nd Judicial Circuit Solicitor Barbara Morgan announced this week that she will not seek another term of office this year stating that it was time for her to step aside. Strom Thurmond, Jr. also announced that he intends to run for the position. The 2nd Judicial Circuit includes Aiken, Barnwell and Bamberg counties.

Charges of criminal sexual conduct against Kelvin Mathis were unfounded and based on mere suspicion. After being subjected to false arrest and malicious prosecution for more than a year last week an Aiken jury of 12 citizens found him not guilty on all charges. In the process of his prosecution Solicitor Barbara Morgan cost Aiken taxpayers thousands of dollars in court costs, legal fees, etc.
