I had the unfortunate experience of driving through Curryville last week. I saw the 45 sign so slowed to 45, then came further into town and saw the 35 sign so I slowed to 35, then I saw the 45 sign on the other side of town so I sped up to 45 and immediately got pulled over for going 46 in a 35. Apparently I made the mistake of accelerating about 100 yards too soon. The officer clearly was thrilled to have caught me involved in such a travesty of justice!

Not nearly like it used to be when they had a fleet of three cars patrolling 24/7 and constantly running speed.

I believe it's a nationwide law that the speed limit changes at the sign so why would you be speeding up prior to passing the sign?

I live about eight miles from Curryville, and I have heard a lot of people complain that it's a speed trap. But I agree with the earlier comment. You're not supposed to speed up until you get to the speed limit sign, and if the police in Curryville is out, he will get you.

HMMM interesting topic, i remeber when local tv done story. In 1986 Quincy IL 40,000 population made approx $250,000 in speedin fines, Hannibal population made same year approx 125,000. Curryville same year population under 100 plus the free running animals made approx $750,000.
Also Curryville refused to pay state their share of the fines due to majority was on a STATE funded highway. Curryville a "SPEEDTRAP"?? I believe its a little more..... I am curious if they still give you a name and # to a lawyer to "take care" of the ticket?? The best thing that can happen is that the state get the funds that were SUPPOSE to be set aside for a new higway 54 throughout the state which was to BYPASS the HAZZARD COUNTY of missouri.....
Want to know more ask anyone that has also had their care STRIPPED by the PD there, Im talking about seats removed from care placed in ditch of road, the people in care placed in wrist restraints, also sitting in ditch / side of road, a VERY DANGEROUS / HAZARDOUS method they use.

I had the same thing happen to me! Saw the 45 mph sign, missed the 35mph one (since it was like 10 feet from the 45mph sign. Cop wouldn't even consider a warning.

good thing there is now a law in missouri that keeps a town from making more than a certain % of its revenue off of traffic violations or you'd see how tough curryville used to be.

I got a double speeding ticket going thru curryville heading north & east thru town. He got me for doing 20 in a 15mph and doing a 55 in a 45 heading outta town. And that was in 1993. IT'S A SPEED TRAP and a joke!
for all the money they get for speeding tickets why is it a poverty town?
