Historic St. Louis riverboat now rusted scrap

It was the first all steel riverboat on the Mississippi; built in 1924, the S.S. President had a storied history as a luxury steamer.

As the other UK residents have written I to watched the doco'Monster Moves' last night and went to look up the SS President to see it finished & was sadden that the only decent info on it was this news article.

Both my husband & I had said before the programme finished that when we next plan to travel to the states we would def look up the SS president to visit / stay.

I think it would be successful as both a hotel & confernece centre & would def bring more business to the town.

I really hope that the doco last night goes someway to showing St Elmo what a great addition to the town the SS President will be & I will def be interested in following its progress. As mentioned by another post I think a dedicated website to SS President is a fab idea.

Tell the Brits to save their money. In the year of 2025, the St. Elmo city council will try to determine what to do with all this junk that is still laying alongside I-70..In the meantime it will be a home for snakes and field mice, rusting away a little bit at a time, the owner not having the money to do anything and the town of St. Elmo, not willing..and rightfully so..This was a silly venture to start with..

Just have been watching discovery channel about the move of this historic ship.
During the program i already had my doubts if this was handled in the most efficient way. I was very curious how the story ended after the move of all the pieces. Unfortunately no progress until now.
