Has anyone been sexually assaulted while in the custody of Ocean Springs Police Dept. and it was covered up?

I think that the answer is safely affirmative. The citizens of Ocean Springs have been taking it up the ass for years from the local police department whether in custody or not.

What would you think if you are in the police custody and the police threatened to rape. you and go to report it and are told to get out of city hall or we will arrest you. when you show up for a city council to talk in the open forum you are told by the police cheif if you talk about what happened on 11-14-2011 we will arrest you

Call the Attorney General's office and the local chapter of the ACLU. If you are being truthful then be diligent in your efforts to expose those who are not protecting and serving the citizens of O.S.

Enough is enough. Officers have long forgot the ethical oath they spoke when becoming on officer. Use the wrong doings of this department as an example of what is to come, and not try to cover it up as it appears many are trying to. These officers are no better than anyone else, they still put their pants on one leg at time. The only difference is most are over compensating for something by abusing their positions. They are civil employee's and work for us the tax payers.

I wonder how Ocean Springs city officals would react if it was their wives, mothers, or daughters that were threatened to be raped in custody.

Could a rouge police officer threaten to assault someone? Sure, I can believe that. But to have the Chief, Alderman, city hall staff, all cover it up? I have a very tough time believing that. You can't get people over there to agree on the correct time of day and you would expect they would get together and concoct a story to cover up a horrific attack? Why would all those put their reputation, job, and possibly freedom at risk to protect some police officer? Sorry, don't see it happening.

Ask the chief of police or the alderman that asked told us not to speak at a ? public ciy council meeting at city hall or we would be arrested for interfering with a police investigation. You have to file a complaint to start an investigation. And no complaint had been filed at that point.Funny that the mayor had an executive meeting after we left to start an investigation? And all question are to be sent to the city attorney. And yes people will put jobs on the line. In the last two years, Los Angeles County sheriff's officials have disciplined more than 30 jail employees for beating inmates or covering up the abuse, according to a report from the agency's watchdog obtained by The Times. It happens in small towns to.

If its so tough to believe the news must not reach you that the president of Penn State was fired over cover ups involing an assistant coach. Cover ups have and still do happen and are worse in small communities where everyone knows and is related to everyone. Chief isnt going to want his department exposed to anymore bad press after his officer last year was arrested for child pornography.

You know, when you start with a snide attack it makes everything else you say sound hollow, but I digress.

There is no real parallel between the two cases. My point is city hall, police chief, etc won't give a flip about a lone officer. They will toss him under the bus in a second. Penn State has a multi, multi million dollar operation to protect.

When I read more about how they shut the orig poster up at the Board meeting because they didn't want her to go public with details of the investigation, now that makes sense. Did it ever occur to the nay-sayers that they don't want the details public so they can trip up the perpetrator during an interview?

An earlier post says the event just happened the 13th or so, and she went to the Board meeting. If they 'crime' was only 24 hours old or so, what did she expect? Case made, Sun-Herald to have a front page article, trial held, transferred to Parchman already? Based on what was posted, shutting her up at the Board meeting seems like the most reasonable thing to do. Shooting her mouth off is doing a disservice to the victim.

The only point that was being made was cover ups happen every where. To believe a city is any different is where I have to disagree with you. The chief stands up for his people, city hall stands up for the chief, and theres the ball rolling.

I ask anyone reading this what if it was your wife, mother, sister or daughter. How would you feel about them being threatened with rape. I doubt you would be defending the city and the chief.

I highly doubt they are trying to cover it up. More than likely the OP went about it in the wrong manor and should contact state entities if worried. If they were gonna cover anything up it would have been their fellow officers that THEY arrested for watching kiddy porn. Chief Lionel is a good man and follows a regimen to get things done.

While the great state of Mississippi is still trying to recover from the effects of Katrina, promoting tourism, incentives to relocate, jobs, requesting people to return, to what? This type of incident is one more reason .. NOT TO! Whe your personal safety may very well be at risk ... SHAME ON YOU MISSISSIPPI!

Did anyone witness an accident at Bienville and Washington in Ocean Springs, MS on October 29th at 1045? It was an SUV and a VW Beetle. The SUV ate a red light and slammed into the VW Beetle but none of the witnesses made a statement to the police. Please step forward and state what you saw so an innocent driver does not get screwed over. Thank you.

What was she accused of that got her in jail in the first place? That could be relevant to her case against the city. Has she been released at least?

It's amazing reading these posts. A police officer accused of a criminal act has the same rights as any citizen in this town. Those same rights are the reason you don't,for all intents and purposes, hold a trial during a counsel meeting at city hall. And let's not forget. The "victim" could be lying. Yes, that too still happens here in Mississippi and in small town USA.
