Looks like we are finally going to get testing in order to get benefits. Call your state Representative and asked them to vote it in.

What does it cost companies to do a piss test for drugs? I'm sure it is less than a year of collecting welfare pay. Hopsitals can do it. I know hospitals are expensive, but how expensive? My tax dollars are giving them money and I had to get tested before I got hired and if I get injured at work I have to take another drug test or get fired. If welfare people refuse to do the test, then no money.

Well, I agree, but as soon as you get government involved the whole thing gets screwed up and the costs triple. If they could just do it like companies do it would be OK but I bet since it would be a government contract they'd have to go with union companies.....and the costs would be too high.

When we get to vote on this, I will be voting yes! I work my butt off for what I have. If they have money for drugs, they have money for food and other needs. The only information I will be looking up is what affects this has on children in a household that fails this drug test. I do not want innocent children being starved from their parent's poor choices. I do think this would help with the abuse of welfare, but I do know there are honest people on the system this would also affect and if they are not doing anything wrong then they should not have anything to worry about. I have to take a drug test to EARN my paycheck, why shouldn't they to receive the help that gets handed to them. There is still so much reform that needs to take place for the welfare system as a whole.

Yeah, you'd have to look at what would happen to the kids in that household. If the parents were on hard drugs, perhaps the kids would be better off somewhere else. If we're just talking about pot, then I don't know what to do about the kids.
I wish people would be responsible for themselves and their children and not rely on the nanny state to take care of them.
If you can't afford to take care of your kids, either don't have sex or use birth control!

You have to take a piss test for your job because your employer believes that it is worth it to do so. The money spent on drug testing welfare recipients, however, exceeds that of any savings that would be had by trying to kick positives off of the program. It is a waste of money.
There is absolutely no evidence that any significant number of welfare recipients are drug users. It is based entirely on imaginary stereotypes.
Well, that was the case in FL but what company was used to do the drug testing? If it's cost-effective for employers it could be cost-effective for states as well. Again....as long as the state didn't have to use union companies to do the testing.
How many people do you know who are on assistance? Food stamps, welfare, rent assistance, Medicaid....
And how many do some drugs? Not necessarily hard-core addicts, but those who do drugs? I bet there are a lot, given the huge numbers of drug users in our community.

Imaginary stereotypes, does this include ball players too? How many of them are busted for drugs and still get payed? It's not just the poor that are druggies. I think anyone that receives money from my taxes. I don't care if you are white, black or any other color. If you receive my tax dollars to lay around on your ass, I want you tested. The kids should be taken away from those parents testing positive, the same way kids are taken away if they are physically abused. If you don't think giving my tax dollars to druggies is a waste of money I don't know what is. Truckers are tested every 3 years. I know some and if they test positive they lose their license. Maybe so should any on welfare that test positive lose their license.

I am sorry a drug is a drug and if you chose to do them you are indeed irresponsible. Anything can happen when you are high and if something were to happen, would you not consider yourself irresponsible then? u were unemployed and smoking weed when you could have been looking for work. There are other ways to relax and enjoy yourself. I have been hit hard as well but never drank or did one single drug because of it or at any time for that matter. I took assistance when I needed it once and guess what it motivated me to find work even faster. Like I said above this is one step in the welfare system reform that is needed very badly but this is not the key step, just a small one. My point is if I have to pass one to get a job, then why shouldn't someone looking for assistance, then why shouldn't they. Why should people who work pay for those who make life choices the way they do. I believe people that honestly need should get it not those who abuse the system. If you have money for drugs, alcohol, the newest tech stuff, then why should tax payers fit your life choices when u clearly have the money for the wants in your life. Just my opinion. We need to stop the abuse of the system in general and maybe this is the first step. It maybe that we as citizens need to urge for cost effective drug test. I do appreciate your opinion I just don't agree with it. There are some bad people who have abused the system and in turn ruined it for those who do not.

Sadly, and I have seen this from my previous work, there are a lot of people who just love "working the system" and getting every single thing free that is possibe. They know they won't be drug tested so they don't worry about it.
There are families who live off government assistance from generation to generation and they think it's just fine.
We need to change that mindset.

Binifits huh? The whole point is that not one single one of these programs that have been implemented have worked. It's been the exact opposite actually. They've failed and cost people more and more money. And if you think VW has a drug problem then take a trip down to Florida for a few months. People around here have this automatic dislike for anyone receiving any type of assistance. I've seen it time in and time out. The ONLY ones this is going to affect are the pot smokers. And does it really bother you that much that I grow or smoke with a friend and also receive foodstamps? Not that I do, that's just a hypothetical question. This whole thing was started by none other than Rick Scott. is there a coincidence that his wife has a drug testing company? This is a waste of money, and just one of those things that the 2 party system uses to distract citizens and pit them against one another. This way we don't turn on the people we should be revolting against.
Yeah, it kind of bothers me that you smoke up and are on food stamps. You shouldn't be smoking, and I bet you don't just grow it or get it given to you.
Yes, the program under Rick Scott with his wife's company involved, didn't work out. But if we could get a drug-testing program into effect that didn't cost an arm and a leg, I'd be all for it.

That's the thing, you won't. And why should that bother you? If I'm not actually spending money on it, which I'm not, then why should it matter? Sorry I guess I just can't understand that logic very well.
Maybe you are not the one spending your welfare check on drugs but like you said, your friend is buying it. If it is money from welfare then you are blowing my tax dollars up in smoke the same as if you are receiving it. And the guy that said he likes to just relax. Relax from what? He is not working. He shouldn't be tired from doing nothing. Maybe he should relax in the morgue.

Who cares? It's already been proven that they are spending more money to knock about 2% of people off the programs than what they give them in aide per year. Florida was also a prime example of how corruption always finds its way into the equation. Gov. Scott made money hand over fist in the deal and even more of our tax dollars were used to line his pockets.

You can buy a very reliable 12 panel drug screen for around 5 bucks, if you buy a large quantity, from a company called Medical Disposables Inc.

people fake passing drug tests for jobs all the time u dont think people know how? this will solve nothing. The whole system needs to be redone but that will not happen.
