Well, thanx to VWPD baracade to the access to shopping around the Summit shopping area. I was going to go shopping at Dollar General, then go to Wendy's to get some food. Thanx to the genius that decided to baracade the entrance to the shopping center...Also, I am overjoyed with the fact that there is also a VW cop sitting there...HAPPY we have enough excess in our coffers to pay a cop to protect business development. IDK, who had the genius idea to block access to businesses...but I suspect business is going to be affected at TSC, JJ's, Card Shop, Dollar General, Fun Fitness, and any other stores along that strip mall.
Maybe the businesses that 'may' be affected by these baracades also thank the VWPD and whoever in the business development firm that made this decision.

I do know that one of the police officers spouses works at Wal-Mart; so don't let these guys discourage you from shopping on the south side. It is absolutely worth driving a little out of your way for lower prices and higher quality.

You are not being stopped from shopping at any of the businesses at The Summit Shopping Center or from the the shopping center across the street, just for using them as your shortcut.
We just need a little patience.

Who wants to drive all of the way around to get to those stores. If they want us to shop there then let us through. Once you lose business to another store (TSC to Rural King, Mainstreet to Pic-n-Save, etc.) it is hard to get it back. Poor city planning. The stores must have requested the blockade so boycott them.

I think the stores customers have complained. I had a helluva time getting out of the Marsh parking lot...people driving way too fast, not stopping. Someone was gonna get hurt if it continued. I'm sure the stores done want to lose revenue and the street reconstruction wasn't their idea so dont blame them. They dont like it any more than you do.
that is odd

There seems to be a parade of dump trucks running up and down Shannon St, and on a Saturday.

I heard yesterday that they would also be working tomorrow as well.
However they still won't be done until October.

the drive out around and onto fox road and back is still easier than getting out to the town center; talk about crazy drivers-they need to do a better job of patrolling the walmart lot! how about a barricade so you can't just speed through out there?!

I just know if I want burger king I am not driving all the way out washington street to fox road to shannon to come into burger king that way...that is bullsh#t!!! I will be taking ervin to the little road between arbys and kinstles and turning right by fast fun fitness slowly and go through and cross shannon st. to get into arbys.... I do not see how a cop can ticket you for this SO LONG AS YOU ARE DRIVING 10 to 15 mph in doing so and staying square to the parking lots and not cutting diagonally across somewhere!!!!

VW police to enforce ‘shortcutting’ ban

Van Wert police will be enforcing local ordinances banning short-cutting across private property, such as shopping center parking lots, in the area of the intersection of Ervin Road and Shannon Street.

“Because of the high volume of traffic and concerns by businesses over possible safety issues with pedestrians and motorists, the department will begin assigning offers to the area to enforce the city ordinance prohibiting shortcutting across private property and other traffic violations observed,” said Police Chief Joel Hammond in a release issued Thursday.

The police chief said he hopes motorists will comply with the ordinance and find alternate routes around the construction so that citations won’t have to be issued.

The intersection is expected to be closed until September 9 as workmen complete a reconstruction project on Shannon Street.

The price of progress is sometimes inconvenience,if the store has the product(s) you want, need or desire why not go the long way?

NO SHIT SHERLOCK!!! This is why I made the comment I made!! Cuz I DONT wanna take the long way around and so long as I am actually going to a store within the parking lots I do not see why we cannot go SLOWLY through them at the outer perimeters and NOT drive like the jackasses diagonally 35 mph across them!!!

I thought the parking shortcut law applied to "avoiding a traffic control device". The traffic control device is out of the equation. You can not drive that direction.

They have road closed signs at the stop sign just past Arbys and the Cash Advance place. Don't think you can get through that way. That is where they are patrolling for people driving through!

Had this problem yesterday myself. I, too, couldn't figure out why they didn't move the cop down into the parking lot a little to watch those just passing through. Wanted to shop at dollar general and had to go all the way around to Fox Rd. At the price of gas....just hit wal mart....going to break even. There has to be a better way to work that than to not allow anyone to go through on that little side road. Doesn't bother me from the cut-through standpoint but I don't understand stopping even those wanting to go to those stores.....coulda still enforced some of it. But either way....VW does it all wrong. You can count on that.

Sounds like a bunch of whiners to me. What's the big deal of going to Fox Rd? So it adds two whole minutes to your trip. Geesh!

It's an inconvenience and for a stupid reason. Little old ladies complaining because there is too much traffic going through, or they almost got hit, or whatever else they can think to whine up. What would any of these numb nuts do if they lived in a larger city? There is so much traffic they'd probably get hit and die. It's called survival of the fittest. Do you really want these people in our human gene pool anyways?

And you can call me ... Mr.Joshua.
