Should we fix it? It's cheaper than building a new one at the high school. I also think it's in a better location, not to mention the atmosphere is pretty good there (for a couple weeks until we realize we're going to lose every game). Share your thoughts! I personaly would like to see it stay. It was something i really enjoyed when i first moved here and i'd hate to see it go for something "new and better"

Time for it to go. Why pay for the up keep of two stadiums? It's time to quit wasting tax payer money on things the school wants instead of what the school can afford. Time for a reality check for everyone spending money foolishly in a down economy.

As I understood it, they would build a brand new facility on school grounds which would total more than the cost of reparing the old stadium. So the rational thing would be to repair rather then build new. Plus you're going to have the cost of tearing it down.

I'm not sure I understand what was said about the up keep of 2 stadiums....I was under the assumption it's one of two things: 1. Repair Old or 2. Build New. Not both.

The location of it now is a better atmosphere. All they need is to add some more parking. The large grassy nole doing nothing besides being roped off would make an excellent addition to the parking.

Building yet another extremely expensive and overwhelming eye sore out at the school would be ridiculous. Depending on where it would be, the parking lot wouldn't be an easy access, it would eliminate all of the "walkers" that go to the game, and it would take just another piece of history away from down town.

Look at the past history of Van Wert. Let it deteriorate bad enough they have to tear them down and build new. The school for example. The old swimming pool. Look at all the other empty school buildings sitting empty or are going to be empty. Let tax payers flip the bill for these buildings.
As far as the current football field, I don't think they ever planned to repair. First there is not enough parking for people. They could have made the ground from the old school a parking lot but they didn't. People always complained about parking for the games and activities at the park on Jefferson. That would have solved both problem. Since they didn't make that into a parking lot I don't believe they ever intended to keep the old football stadium. It's what certain people in Van Wert want, they get at taxpayers expense

Have you been to the new school? they already have a new stadium there. It also has a brand new concession stand, is handicap accessible and all the parking you would ever need. All they have to do is take the existing visitors seating at the old school and move it to the new school. If you haven't noticed, they don't play basketball at the old school anymore, so why play football there?

Spike you got it !!!! The admin. Tried to force the hand of the public to tear down the "old to much to repair stadium" it backfired when the numbers came out. Here's the deal you want change. Get rid of the Retired Rehired Super. Really what does he bring to the table for value ? The board ? Really ? Someone who is in the know needs to plead and get some biz people to run the board at least 3 people. The board blames the state ? HUMM. I promise you that you cant run a busniess and stay running with the people currently handling the millions of dollars they are. None of them handle anywhere that kind of money. It's always easy to spend someone else's money. Do you think they handle there family check books the same way ? Again you have 60 million in new buildings. Now a new football stadium ? With about 9000 people to pay for it. This Fiscal Cliff is going over the CLIFF. 15 million in debt by 2015ish ? Already targeted. Ahhh. This is to funny .

Hey genius! Get your facts straight. It's a track and field area / soccer field ( multipurpose ) area at the new building. There are not bleachers on both sides. It is not ready for football...I don't think that is what it was intended for.

I love the stadium! It is a beautiful place to watch a game and I love being close to the field and the players! Going to games where you sit back behind the track is NOT fun and not a good way to watch football! Sure it's sorta crappy and the bathrooms are horrid but I love it! Fix it up!

With all you spend thrifts wanting to keep on spending taxpayer's money it is a wonder a family can survive at all in Van Wert. Just why is there a need for a new stadium when they only play 5 (FIVE)games a year on thee grounds. The rest of the time grass has to be mowed when it is growing. Talk about waste, building a new stadium is a tremendous waste of money. Why do you think it is necessary to pay for something we already have?

I take it that you receive government funding for your home, because it sure doesn't sound like you work for a living.

I'm not sure what you're talking about???? What I'm saying is, why pay for two places when you already have a brand new place to play at the new school? Van Wert High School played soccer at Smiley Park for 20 years, now they can't play at the new h.s. because it is only a soccer field? Now that's a wast of money.

It was my understanding that 2-3 years ago a study was done to see if they stadium was safe. The quote to simply repair it with no upgrades to locker rooms or anything else was going to cost approximately 450,000. A complete renovation was going to cost a little over 1 million. They figured it would cost a little over a million to turn the new stadium into a football stadium. I am not sure why this is a discussion because no one has said they were going to do anything to either stadium recently. I also do not understand why being able to walk to a game is a draw. The parking at the high school allows for tailgating and other events to take place to bring people together before the game.

Everyone is concerned about tax dollars. Then why did we allow them to build that Elementary school? Surely the maintenance on the other schools in town did not equal that. But we live in a society where anything good has to be shiny new. The location of the new schools sucks ass! I hate going out there. I wouldn't be surprised if the guy who owned that land and got rich off it wasn't buddy buddy with someone on the board.

My opinion is we should repair and update Eggers stadium since it was found to still be structurally sound and repairs were less than half of what a new stadium would be. I do agree that the hill where the old Jr. High was should be made into parking, maybe a pay lot (which would piss alot of people off) that would benefit the booster club/ maintenance and upkeep for the stadium. I think it might be old, but it is nice and has character and is worth keeping for now. Maybe do another cost study in 10 years and re-evaluate options then.

get with it they built it cause it was free money.LOL ! the schools projected debt by 2015ish is 15 million and growing. 60 million dollars of new buildings that you people will have to begin maintaining very shortly. or should I say about 9000 of you will. The surrounding schools are sitting back laughing waiting to watch the implosion of it all. while they continue to take in more kids through open enrollment.
