That's how it goes, Wal*fart does the same. That happened often when I worked there. And they always had the asst managers do the dirty work. I remember the one asst manager named Steve, went up to a older fellow he was friends with. They was all smiles and laughing, they he goes "your fired, sorry". Then he walked away. What a d!ckface

its not about fireing "old" people and bring in new ones at a lower rate, that is just what they start people out at these days, the older person may have made more because they have been there longer and when your there longer your pay goes up yearly or by jobs you take. I was there for 15 years and it does not matter how long you been there or who you are for what ever reason they can let you go at any time, or reason. And most of the time I have seen it be for either the person dosent want to come to work, or are just dumb and think they can do stupid shit at work and get away with it becasue they been there so long. these days no one job is safe.

Well, I worked there over 20 years. Left on my own, was not fired. But it all seems pretty selective to me! Many do "stupid shit" (as you say) and totally get away with it. Others are singled out and fired! A lot of it depends on whether you're "liked" or "not liked", not really based on your work performance, if you ask me! They have some there right now (not "older" employees either) who do a very inefficient job, depend on others in the department to carry their load, and even with complaints to team leaders it is ignored. Kinda depends on who you are...just (only) in my opinion.

How can they let you go for any reason at all? In Ohio an employer has to have just cause to legally fire someone. Indiana is different; they can just fire people for any reason at all. But the last time I checked in Ohio you had to have a valid reason for firing someone. Now of course a company can make up reasons and I'm sure a lot of them do. It is true that these days no one's job is safe. You have to prove that you deserve a job to get one and keep one; it's not like they are just handing them out.

I agree with you. An employer will obviously tell people that this is not ever the case, but we all know how it works; especially in factories. There are favorites that get away with anything they do and don't carry their fair share of work and yet keep their jobs. Then you have the actual hard workers who are very efficient but don't happen to be "friends" with management and get fired for the stupidest things. Just my opinion of course but I've seen it happen to good people that I've worked with before. Not at Eaton but at a different factory in town.

Ohio is a "AT WILL" State. At will employees can be terminated for any reason, as long as it is not illegal.

I never understood that seniority thing. Everyone should know that they might get fired if they slack off. When the lay-offs rumors start up, actually before, everyone should worry about their job performance.

Has it always been like that? Sorry, I must have had my information wrong then. I do know that if you get fired for certain reasons that are deemed "unjust" by the state of Ohio (not sure on the specific code that they use to determine just cause) you will most likely get unemployment compensation if you apply for it. So if an employer does fire you for something stupid then you can get unemployment, even thought that's not as good as having a job but at least it is something.

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Gemini

Beware wishful thinking because it will cloud your thoughts and lead to confusion. However, that's much easier said than done, because today you're showing distinct tendencies towards living in a rosy world of your own and ignoring any hard facts that are under your nose. Take care that you don't allow someone to dupe you simply because you aren't paying attention to what they're saying or doing.
