I remember them having these dances and even sleepovers when I was in school and I'm almost 28 now so it's nothing new. Also, a not for profit orginazation still has overhead to pay. Are you going to gripe about them charging for memberships next?

I think it's a good idea,$3 isn't that much and they will have some
good wholesome fun. Everyone always complains that there's nothing for kids to do here, well here's something for them to do.
And I'm sure there will be chaperones, get over it.
Geez.

Next thing you know, a preschool will be selling chicken dinners - since when did they get in the restaurant business?? Or a youth football team will sell candy bars - since when did they get in the candy business?? Who in their right mind wants to support an organization that gives Van Wert kids something clean and wholesome to do like exercise and play sports?? I'm with you davey jones - let's boycott these types of places and just keep eating paint chips like we're used to.

It was so chaotic and so unwatched that a bunch of kids didn't enjoy it?? Don't believe it. What kid doesn't like chaos and being able to run around?

Not much goes on in this town for kids to enjoy so if the ymca wants to throw a dance and charge three measly dollars then what is the big deal? If u dont agree with it dont send your kid its not like they raising taxes to do this lol wow let the kids have some fun

We went home for lunch! Really we had an hour, we went to neighborhood schools, I was at Washington and then Franklin after a move, then I was bussed to Horace Mann one year because Franklin had too many kids. Just the few bussed kids ate in the gym but we had to bring our own packed lunch. So, most of the time we walked to school in the AM walked home and back during lunch, and then walked back home at the end of the day, some of us rode bikes, but most walked. At this time each building had two of each grade, with about 30 kids in each class, that was Franklin, Washington, Anthony Wayne, and Horace Mann. It was really was a different world. We started the day with the Lord's prayer and the pledge of allegiance, the Ten Commandments were posted in each classroom and in the hall ways, We knew if we got in trouble we could be paddled, and on top of that we would be in trouble at home too! I can remember my Mom saying if you get in trouble at school, you will be in trouble when you get home, too. We also had drills in what to do if attacked by an atom bomb, like getting under a desk and closing the drapes would actually help. We were also taught not to be a Mr. Bungle! haha

Too bad a very small minded person has to start this nonsense about the Y dance. My kids go and will continue to go, great supervision and a fun time. If you are so concerned about supervision then volunteer to help. Find something factual to complain about. Do something productive

I wonder why the school now has to provide free or reduced lunches and breakfast for over half the kids attending school? What do you think has changed since you were a kid?

I dont think its right to send our kids to a dance with "registered sex offenders" to be chaperons at a dance. I dont know if its true or not, but still, why take the chance? I bet you parents would feel terrible if you send your kids to a dance and they get raped wouldnt you. Like I said ... why take a chance? We could always tell the Y and have them postpone the dance.

Van Wert lost Borden's, Chrysler, Teleflex (ie, Kongsberg), Kennedy Kit is a skeleton crew, Eaton and National Seal are ghosts of what they use to be; downtown lost out to greedy Walmart, the interstate reduced the hotel and restaurant businesses to a pittance,,, yea, US 30 or Lincoln Highway the only northern route from East to West Coast and it ran right through Van Wert. We became another West Virginia dependent on government assistance like Appalachia, anymore questions?

Are you freaking serious. My children go to the dances and the YM has a strong sexual offender protocol that utilizes the VW Sheriffs office and the national register. I asked, same thing you should do before you start gossiping on topix. In fact I found out that they post picture behind the front desk of all offenders, actually my husband saw the offender report when he asked about how the YM kept offenders out of the Y. If you are so full of info on these offenders put their names on here and prove. Oh, that's right, you just heard that but don't know for a fact.
