It is definitely sad that certain members of council feel we need to pay an extra tax on property we are already being taxed on. 300 bucks ? Get real buying 5 gallons of paint and supplies will yield a permit! Good job Van Wert Politicans for even screwing us again! A home owner should never need to get permission to improve on a property. Looks like people will still continue to not fix up their homes do to the added cost .

The one who abstained really showed a lot of courage didn't they?
How can they pass a law like that with only three votes?

You all voted down their income tax increase so they will get their money one way or another.

I doubt anyone follows it. What they don't know won't hurt them. They claim that they want to clean up Van Wert. How are people supposed to fix up their properties now? Let's say the code enforcers don't like someone. They can just deny the permit if they want. It's all a sham to get money. Which is why I will continue to vote down tax increase levies. I want to see those city council members lose money. All of them except Joi, Warren and Joel.

Now we know who voted it in and who to vote out. And on another note we also know the leaches who’s houses need vandalized So they can go get building permits to fix up there homes and see what they did To their constituents. So plea to the undesirables of the van wert Community to please teach them a lesson

Yea, not exactly appropriate, nor legal. That topic in particular should be a force majeure condition, mitigating any need for a builders permit. I know when 14 kids were on our property and damaging an already weakened structure I wasn't about to ask for permission to fix it. They should be glad I already rebuilt the upper section. It had a large section of wood that was rotted out and would have been a longer fall to the ground.

It's actually much worse than that. Let's just assume they don't like me, because they don't. They would have pushed for costly state inspections and really tried to put the pinch on me. Instead, and when they realized I was in compliance, they changed the ordinance, punishing everyone else. Nothing petty about that...:-/

When you buy your supplies to improve your property just purchase everything in $290 parts. Need a $500 paint job? 2 purchases. Show receipts.

I'm sorry, but for Joel to abstain is just as bad as a yes vote. I will have to hear a good reason why before I change my mind about voting him out.

His reason for abstaining is that he's a licensed paint contractor.(conflict of interest)

Another point on this, even if Penton hadn't abstained and voted no, Council President would have been the tie breaker.

For the latter, I'm on the opposite end of the spectrum.

For the former, while a brain spinning out of control tends to head towards paranoia, there's too much factual evidence to consider me a paranoid. My lawyer handled most of the issues, from my landlord's case and questions about use of our building, which all fit neatly into "Social Activities", "Professional Services", and "Business Services". I've received one anonymous letter on the subject of the current Mayor, and on numerous occasions been told when my name is mentioned, whether it be him expressing his desire to run me out of town, or have multiple fire and state inspections.

Particularly comical was how fast I received one of the rumors and its timing relative to a member of the fire department visiting. I got that one moments before he arrived.

I'm still here.
