Can anyone explain why Van Wert city has much money to put into a 1600 acre mega site ghost town, yet they need a tax levy to build a $3,000,000.00 swimming pool?
How much is it costing us to build this 1600 acre mega site ghost town and to build a railroad to no where?
When the city council meets again they will bemoaning that they are not taking in enough revenu so they will need to raise the water bill again.
An editorial in the Times Bulletin today June 21, 2013 said that Van Wert voters are mostly fiscal conservatives. What planet does that editorial writer live on?

The mega-site is being paid for by money from the state of Ohio. So the City of Van Wert really isn't out much. Here's an interesting fact. The city of Marysville originally was one of the sites for developing a mega-site. Their mayor at the time pulled the plug on the project. That mayor, who pulled the plug, is currently Ohio's Director of Development and is pushing the Van Wert megasite. If the project wasn't good enough for Marysville, then why is it good for an Wert?
Talking about the water rates, if the pool tax is approved then you will see another "hidden tax" with your water bill. The feasability study calls for the city to provide the water without charge. Who's paying for the treatment of this water? That cost will be added into your water bill.
