So, there's going to be a meeting of Council about an "Aquatic Center".....supposedly paid for by private funds.
But then....they are going to put an issue on the ballot in May? Presumably to maintain this aquatic center.
No more additions to property taxes.
No More Taxes.

That's the way it should be. It's going to generate revenue unlike a park. I hope they get this done. It would be good for the town. Although i'll probably go to Delphos still since i like not seeing Van Wert folk on my weekends.

We definitely would not. Property tax is too high here because they've over-inflated worth, we can all expect insurance to go up too based on all of the storms we've had this year all over the country. The last thing I'd support is a pool.

Yep. My insurance just went up 73% because there was a statewide increase in claims, even though my house was unaffected.

Really? 73% Really?

If this is true, I hate to break the news to you Squirt, but you are allowed to take your business elswhere and go to a differnt insurance company. But,I do not think you are telling us all the facts.

As far as a pool tax, your just flogging a Dead Horse.

Right now, a private group in seeking donations to establish a fund for the maintence and operations of the pool But the city would have basically a $3 Million dollar ballot issue to pay for it. I've been told that the people involved in seeking donations are Charles Koch and Pat Ryan. I briefly read some of the feasability study that Mayor Farmer gave out and it raises more questions than it answers. It's based on a 13 week season and the employees will be paid less than minimum wage.

I won't support this project for several reasons. First, I don't believe tax dollars should be used to support a project such as an aqautics park. Secondly I don't believe government should be competing with the private sector, in this case competing with the Y's, Huggy ear, etc. The private sector pays taxes, where government doesn't. Thirdly, our Parks Department is not capable, nor qualified, to operate an aquatics center.

More importantly, my opposition is based on the financial enviroment of this community, not just the private citizens but also of the City of Van Wert. City Audito Martha Balyeat has been expressing her concerns about VW's financial future and with good cause. According to the city's 3-year projections, by 2014 we will be out of money, based on current income streams. Right now, there's some pension obligations that will be coming due, but rather than deal with them now Mayor Farmer want's to kick them down the road. The mayor's argument is we have great things on the horizon. Personally, I don't believe it's right to use a credit card today based on what might happen next year. If you remember, when Mayor Farmer left the mayors office before, he left a bit of a financial mess. It forced Mayor Ehmer to go to the voters and ask permission to use 2/3's of the .22 Safety Tax to pay for policemen and firefighters.

It's going to be interesting to see which councilpeople place an aquatics park over the safety and financial needs of the citizens.

We already have Huggy
Bear and camp clay YM. They don't get used unless it is a free day or
They have a band playing. No to the pool and no to tax increases

I don't see the citizens of Van Wert City/County (whichever group they are targeting) going for an increase in property taxes to build something that is used less than 3 months per year. They didn't go for it the last time it was on the ballot.

And then in order to use it, the taxed citizens STILL pay an admission charge or purchase a season pass.

And as long as it's a public facility, it will end up just like the old pool...being a thug hangout that families avoid like the plague. It's a sad truth.

Yes, 73%. No more to the story, and I do plan on switching companies. I may have been born at night but it wasn't last night. Has your insurance come up for renewal lately?(i.e. since the storms this summer.) If not and you have a policy underwritten through homesite insurance co be ready for a surprise. They don't even send a letter to inform you. If my lender hadn't called to give me a heads up I would have never known. Insurance sleaze didn't even have the courtesy to spit on it before they tried to put it in.
