Times are tough for a lot of people and I have been tossing around this idea... Is there any local interest in commune living here in Van Wert? What would be some of the core beliefs you would be interested in? I would be interested in Producing much of our own food and eating all natural and mostly organic products. Anyone have any other like minded values? One major difference is because it would include children, there would be absolutely no drugs. I am open and welcome to input. This is something I am serious about. There are several advantages to communal living with just a few of them being, shared workloads, shared expenses, extended family support, security, just to name a few. I also have a few properties in mind which is why I am seeking local comments and interest.

I am not interested in communal living basically because I enjoy my privacy, I like working at my own pace, and I wouldn't enjoy people encroaching on either of those. I can, however, see the appeal to some people and think if you can find the right mix of motivated and like minded people that it would work. My concern is that if someone is considered a leader in this group that eventually it could be cult-like. You can't have a group of families living together and not have order- someone would have to delegate jobs and maintain order. At the same time if you only have one or two people delegating, especially if they are men, eventually it could get out of hand or start being perceived as out of hand. Good luck.

Thanks for the constructive input. Yes there is a very very fine line between a commune and a cult. We are very aware of this and have looked at working examples of modern day communes such as "the Farm" These are very democratic systems with a leader and a board that in my opinion would have as many woman as men for representatives. I want it to be a place families want to be a part of. As close to a communal society as possible with respected freedom but also with appropriate structure. Again thank you for your opinions even though you are on the side of maintaining private living. I can respect and see exactly where you are coming from. Thank You.

I must have scared everyone away with that "no Drugs" comment. Detrimental to the cross section of Van Wert and Topix.

Lol Yea people are just dying to get in. Actually I have been to that site. Off topic I know but just saying.

I have no desires to build a cult. In fact If I were to start a commune, I would not be on the board at all. It is the best way actually. A real commune actually works well and has several benefits. Just to dispel any preconceived notions, My kids would wear regular clothes and still go to school. everything would be the same except you just have more people to come home to.

i have been thinking of the same idea! With the economy the way it is, I perceive many families living together to share expense.

The whole scene has changed since communes were workable. Back in the day it was all about peace and love and it was the "family" against the man. These days it's all about "me". Nice thought though.

We just need to get all these people together because I have a feeling a lot of people have thought about this. The monetary advantages are pretty evident when you think about it. For instance, historically in Van Wert school properties that occupy a full city block have sold for $50,000. Thats a lot cheaper than my house for sure.

In these times it would be families coming together to survive despite the future of the economy. it would be more of a safe haven from losing our luxury of living well and prospering. A lot different than the older "hippy" communes. Although, the Hippy ones worked very well. The principle would be the same just with different ideals.

Would'nt it be alot smarter to elect a new president that actualy has experience creating jobs and running buisenesses? Poeple should not have to join their families together just to survive. Why would you surrender your hopes and dreams and vote for a man that you know will fail us all? Have some pride and make sure that your kids grow up with the same America that we did. Don't sell out your childrens future because you cant admit that this presidency isnt what they promised us. I for one won't be fooled again. The American dream should still be for everyone to be able to own their own home, dont settle for less people.

Off topic and not helpful. I never made any statements at all about politics. I could care less who is going to be president and what the economy looks like. Doesn't have anything to do with my hopes and dreams. What if my hopes and dreams were to have a commune????? Your assumptions are really funny to me actually so thanks for the laugh at least. I guess its only funny to me cause you have no idea who I am and how much money I make and etc, etc. If you only knew.

I guess the" families coming together to survive despite the future of the economy" thing threw me off topic? Anyways I'm glad that it made your day. You really shouldn't brag on Topix about how much money you have, they will be on you like stink on shi#.

I didn't say it was a lot or a little money. I just said it was funny cause you don't know. Technically I haven't "made" one cent in oh about the last 7 years. I know what you mean though about talking about money on here. It's cool cause no one knows who I am except me so I'm not real worried.

Yes something very much so like that. Units would be separate of course. Mostly it would be like combining households. A school would be perfect for splitting up apartment like dwellings. Some of the best run communes have individual cabins the owners build themselves on the communal property and some common areas or buildings.

The problem with our economy isn't the presidents' or necessarily even the governments' fault. Thjat's all glitz and glamour, a "curtain" if you will. The president is nothing more than a spokesman for the US. The federal reserve bank and the fact that a third (if not more) of America's corporations are now foreign owned. The biggest problem being the federal reserve bank. America needs to take back it's financial system. There's no sense in us following a perpetuasl debt systme like the one we have established with the federal reserve.

I think there's a good chance that we end up raising a bunch of religious nut jobs in a commune. Unless of course you plan on teaching the kids science and rational thinking.

It would be unaffiliated with a religion. Just like my kids would still go to public school, we would still go out to our own place of worship. Yes the commune would be nice if people shared a religion but this is one thing you must respect to keep that line of a cult under control and to keep others off your back and to dispel rumors.

Besides my particular religion welcomes all and respects all as fellow humans. I believe we are all the same.

If you are trying to recruit a lot of topic people to live in your commune then I'm all for it. Just make sure to put a huge fence around the place. LOL
