Yawn, before the new VW school was built it was too much trouble to use the VW facility...parking, etc. Lview was much easier to access. No one bothered to change the venue with the new VW school. The board members just haven't given it much thought. They will now tho'. And YES was too much hassle with the old VW school so don't even start your crap. It will get fixed if VW will allow us to use their facility. Thanks for the thread.

see,on my other post about tearing down washington school.they say new schools are better, you have to go by what state of oh wants you to do to get the state money, now you people might see why what the state wants is not good in the end,you will find out the new schools are on private property not like the old ones were public property, you lose a lot of your rights, they have different rules and regulations as in the past, what it all comes down to is if it makes sense to do something simple they cant allow it,little by little they are taking away things from us the people that we were all used too, like awhile back they wouldnt let us drive across the parking lots at summit shopping center or be arrested, now did that make any sense, they didnt care what the people wanted to do,

As coordinators we spent the week before the competiton constantly checking the weather worrying about moving the competiton and then having to deal with all the negative comments and threads like this. We were told van wert high school has turned down the chance to be the rain site for the competition in the past. Therefore lincolnview was generous enough to allow the fair to use their facility if it should rain. We put a ton of work into putting the competition together and we would rather have a small facility than cancel it altogether due to rain. We would have loved to have kept the competition at the fair for many reasons, but we couldnt control mother nature. We thank everyone at lincolnview for helping us put the competition together at the very last minute in their facility as well as all the coaches, cheerleaders and most of the spectators that were very understanding. We realize the venue was short on seating and we apologize for the inconvenience it caused. We know we cant please everyone. But, overall we are very glad we were able to have the competition and allow all of the talented athletes the chance to perform in van wert county. Keep in mind what the competition is really about -the cheerleaders.-
Thanks to those who had some positive comments!

Then i say "BOOOOOOOOOOOO" to Van Wert HS for not allowing the cheer competition to be held there!!! Maybe they need to consider saying YES to these kind of events to help out the county fair & our community. After all, the VW cheerleaders were competiting also & we are the tax payers to that school & when crap like this happens & we find out the school says no to something like this..... I SAY HELL NO ON PASSING THEIR NEXT SCHOOL LEVY!!!! Thank your betsy & caressa for explaining.... Hope you will be back next year. GREAT JOB!!!

"We were told van wert high school has turned down the chance to be the rain site for the competition in the past."

Karla, It appears from that statement that VWCS were not asked and the organizers just assumed on what they had been told from the past. I do not know and neither do you but to call for the defeat of a levy base on this is uncalled for.

Also good job to the two who took the time to organize this event. Thanks

So then this is a question for betsy & caressa : did you girls personally ask VW HS to use their facility as a back-up ? or did somebody tell you the school said no?

I think the competition was organized well, and considering the smaller facility, it went pretty good also! A lot of time and effort was put into this, so show a little appreciation folks. Thanks to all you volunteered their time on such short notice.

Karla, many agree with you...no more. You just wait and see; VW County Schools will ask for an operating levy within two years. They will claim the new faciities need more maintenance than they planned on...or that something will need upgraded...or they need to hire more staff....and Vantage will do the same. DON'T GIVE ME THAT CRAP ABOUT HIGHER COSTS EITHER...We deal with higher costs every month and we survive by CUTTING BACK, NOT SPENDING MORE......NO MORE NEW TAXES AND DENY ANY FURTHER RENEWALS until VW county is back at 5% unemployment....JUST SAY NO! It is easier than you think. By the way, I know I'm off topic...just responding to "please reread"....they must be getting us ready for some tax increase somewhere.....?

By the way, before you ask, Dec 2006 is the last time VW county was at 5% according to the US Dept of Labor. http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/graph/... [1][id]=OHVANW1URN

That would have been under George W. Bush for all you historians.

I second that. At least we paid for our school with our own tax dollars. We didn't get a grant from the state like van wert did. Next year have your own in the rain if you don't like it!

They allow it all the time. The cheerleaders tumble. As was pointed out KHDW tumbled on the stage numerous times a year and they've held dance competitions there in the past where there is tumbling going on.

As far as the waivers not being worth the paper they were printed on and consulting a lawyer- who do you think prepared the waivers? Lol! They are completely legal as with any sports waiver.

Learn before you mouth off. This entire county is in a major state of economic decline. People accessing free and reduced lunches for their kids - which is based on INCOME - has nearly tripled in the past seven years. This is public information. We are at 40% give or take county wide in all three districts of people who receive free and reduced lunch....who, by the way, also don't have to pay their school fees because the school system has to absorb those costs. Therefore, each and every district - not just VWC - is operating with less money each year because there is less money to be had. If you had bothered to attend any of the school board meetings, you would know that it will actually be cheaper to operate one large elementary than try to upkeep three smaller ones. Point being - there is less money to be had....government and state are cutting....and the problem is not unique to VWCS. If you are going to let a cheerleading competiton keep you from supporting the school system, then I think your priorities need examining.

Yeah and if you knew how many of the same people that will pay $200+ per month for stuff like cheer and dance that get free lunches for their kids it would make you sick. Just because you're poor doesn't mean your kids shouldn't do extra curricular activities, it does mean you should choose the ones that can be done for free or with little out of pocket spent. Especially when you're getting handouts.

I'd like to see a little proof of what you are saying before I believe it. Most families who are on free lunches are struggling to make ends meet and I doubt they could pay $200 per month for dance lessons, not to mention the cost of costumes, etc.
