Her teaching credentials will be evaluated by the State Board of Education for "conduct unbecoming of an educational professional". She will have mandentory steps to follow to keep/regain her credentials.(If they were suspended). With no criminal record, her credentials should remain valid. May, however, need to move 3 states away to avoid anyone "knowing".

What kind of treatment? Did I miss where she did these things while she was high, drunk or having a mental breakdown? How does treatment help a standard thief? Unless she was steaing to support a habit or addiction, treatment wont do crap. If she was stealing just for money, then what will treatment do? I guess I am confused because if this was Joe Blow that worked at a factory, you better believe the details would be there. But since its a teacher, God forbid anyone in our precious school system look bad. I know the article was there but at this point they couldnt hide the conviction or charges. I bet if they could have, they would have.
Factory worker not getting away with it??? Boy are you wrong. Several years ago a women (J.M.) stole food from the canteen service at Eaton. Her husband worked for a law firm in town (he's not a lawyer). They were both big into Habitat for Humanity, she even received an award from Eaton for her volunteering. She was banned from the canteen by the canteen service, but not a thing was done by Eaton.
One of their engineers they have now also stole from the canteen (E.W). A supervisor got him out of trouble. Not once but twice he stole from the canteen and twice he got away without being fired. He even falsified his hours of work and got away with it. Some people get totally get away with it.

as a former student i'm ashamed of both her and the justice system. she should be in jail just like anyone else would who did even a fraction of her crimes. that long ass explanation didn't look like it amounted to one single charge to me.

What she needs is some serious help for her bad judgment! I attended the same church as Sandy and we served on the board of Deacons as President and Vice President. She was trying to keep up with the Jones and Smiths of Van Wert and be some body! Unfortunately she was trusted and had been getting away with it for so long, thought she would not be caught!

What she did was beyond what a normal case of employee theft usually looks like. She didn't just take from money she had direct access to, she also created false documentation and handed it in to her employer for reimbursement. She also sold school property. She wasn't even going just for cash, she'd take a check or whatever she could get! Think about what must be wrong with her mind, and what a sense of entitlement she must have. Now ask yourself if this kind of person should be allowed to be in the comfort of her home, that tax payers in part have helped her pay for, with all her crap, that again in part tax payers have helped her pay for, raising her children, who tax payers have probably helped to feed, clothe, and pay for their dance, cheer, volleyball, new cars, and whatever junk they whined and said they needed. She shouldn't be around any children, and she certainly shouldn't have been allowed to walk away virtually scot free!

I agree, but this mess was not bad judgement, she planned and planned and got away with it. She's not only a thief, but a liar as well

No doubt! Bad judgment is doing it once, what she did was pathological. She wasn't just trying to keep up with the Joneses, she felt owed, that she deserved it. That is why she kept going further with the planning and scheming.

Based on her occupation and the crimes she committed, it would have been reasonable to sentence her to some hours of community service. She is certainly getting a sweetheart deal. What kind of message is this sending to the students?

I get that the school wants their money back and they were willing to compromise to accomplish that. What I don't like is that at some point she will be able to apply for employment and not be required disclose her criminal record. Potential employers deserve to know the risk of hiring her. The school knows all about her and would never rehire her. Why shouldn't any other company get the same information?

Sandy has been up to no good for a very long time. She may not be getting prosecuted stealing from stores, but she has been caught. She was also involved in schemes where she would take items and then return them to the store without a receipt. I know this because she did it at a store I worked at. The third time we discovered that items she'd been returning we're among our stolen inventory. The fourth time she came in to do a return we told her flat out that we knew what was going on. She never did it at our store again.
I know this was happening at other businesses also, one in the Lima mall where my sister worked was also on her list. Someone I know told me they saw her returning an item in Fort Wayne without a receipt and after she left the store they realized they had a file on her.
I don't know what her husband makes, but I know around what she did. Her girls are involved in so many expensive activities and only wear the best clothes. I am willing to bet that is pretty much where her entire check would go. They always took trips and she did a lot of mom/daughter nights out where she'd rent a limo and take her girls out to really expensive restaurants and then go see expensive shows/concerts. You can only do that so much on a teacher's salary, but she did it all the time.
I heard her two oldest girls just got new cars, one of them a BMW? I would think it's about time for all of them to start living in the real world and experience the word "no" sometimes. While I agree they are innocent, family members continuing to give and give and give only reinforces to them that they deserve all of these material possessions. Her youngest especially is just like her and could very well end up in the same boat.
But it's ok as long as you repent on Sundays right?

I was actually just using this as an example. Our judges, lawyers, teachers, extremely wealthy, political position holders, etc, etc, etc are able to sweep things under the rug for the most part but the average person doesnt have the resources to do this. Look how long the VW coaches/teachers were having sexual affairs with students before it was made public. Look how long Campbell was on the bench after being arrested on drug/criminal charges. Our town is full of 'Good Ol' Boys' that have protection from what most of the rest of us dont. I dont know everyone that was arrested in this last bust but I can bet none of them are wealthy or hold respected positions. Maybe no one does or sells drugs in Van Wert that lives on the right side of the 'tracks' but I highly doubt that. Just my opinion, 40 years in this town, you see a lot.

When it comes to selling drugs, you just gotta know who to pay off. They don't really come looking for you then.

It is unfortunate that they make special circumstances for certain people. That is not right. What they will do is let her fulfill her obligations they set forth in exchange for what is known as a nolo prosequi. Basically it is like a plea deal. She pleads guilty, they let her do treatment. in the meantime the case remains open in the event that she doesn't fulfill the rules. When she does, they simply issue an order stating that they chose not to prosecute the case in court.

As long as she complies with everything, it is correct that she will have no conviction, no record, like it never happened legally. Yes it is messed up.

I just read on the Independant what all she stole, how she stole, and the slap on the wrist she got. What is wrong with our justice system and who in the hell agreed to this crap? This bitch literally had to seriously plot and plan and in ways that most of us would never even imagine to get all this money. And all she gets was a slap on the wrist? WTF!! The school should have fought for every last dime of restitution, and since they didn't well I got news for them...don't come cryin when you run out of money cuz you should have went after ALL that was owed back and not a portion. That bitch stole from ALL OF US!

Yes, and the schools are constantly coming to the taxpayers for more money. Maybe they don't realize the message they are sending to us by letting this go like they are. It was the same way with the VW CO Foundation and the Art Center incident. No way would I ever leave any money to
the Foundation since now I have seen how they conserve the funds given to them. And no way will I ever vote for more $$ for the schools since this is the way they value our hard-earned money.

Did you read the paper? The Van Wert Police were in charge of the investigation. It was their job to charge and the prosecutor and judges job to prosecute and sentence. How does the school fit into that?

if it isn't obama's fault, it's the cops! really, victims involved in non-violent crimes have to file charges or the cops, and courts cannot press charges.
