The VW airport runways are too short for busines aircraft to use.

FAA grants are available to lengthen it to 5,000 feet.

VW will never get a major company interested in the community if a company can not safely land and take off their corporate jets out of the community.

Mt Vernon Ohio did ...

Greensburg, Indiana ... expanding theirs

Bad news for ya, Vinny.
VW's runways were lengthened a number of years ago.
When Aeroquip/Eaton used to have a jet, they landed here all the time.

VW's runway is NOT too short for biz jets. Plenty of room. Comfortably handles Niswonger's G3.

Oh for God's sake, Vinny, find a new horse to ride on.
Adding 500 ft at each end of the runway, or 1000 ft at the end is not that big of a deal.
Go back to your outdoor pool thread.

When did you start mandating what the FAA is requiring .. go stick your head back in the toilet where it belongs.

Vernon or Greenville or one of the towns you seem to think have it so much better. You're truly a pain in the a**. Let me guess, you're all for demolishing downtown buildings you deem as not worthy too? Complain about the drive-in some more too while you're at it.

As soon as the FAA is done with all commercial airports they'll move onto general aviation airports.

Those that get ahead of the curve will be smart, those that don't will be left in the dust.

Not everyone who disagrees with you is on drugs. I personally think you are an opinionated, mis-guided arrogant pr!ck.
And I have never taken any drugs in my life.

Yea, this weirdo poster claims to not live here, but spends time on van wert topix giving out advice about what the community should be doing, complaining about stuff that has nothing to do with him/her - what a nut case!

It really wouldn't even cost that much. 75 feet wide adding 1000 feet assuming a stone base of 12 inches and asphalt 8 inches (I overestimate cause I dont know how thick existing is but I know it isn't that thick) That would be 2777 yards of Gravel at about 20 bucks a yard and 2083 or so yards of asphalt at lets say 50 bucks a ton or so. Figure a %20 markup for construction costs and thats right around $190,000 or so give or take a few.
You're looking at a lot more than that, it's not quite that simple.

The cost wil likely be in the neigborhood of 1 million to 1.25 million, of which the FAA picks up 95% of the costs. The local county and or community the rest.

BY 2014 90% of all commercial airports will meet RESA standards, by 2017 100 % of them will.
