It's pretty sad that we live in a world when stores won't close for Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas and even New Years day. There shouldn't be a single business open on the holidays I mentioned above.

Wal-Mart ONLY closes for Christmas Day and they didn't close the doors Christmas Eve until 9pm. I remember a day outside of maybe a food place where nothing was open on Sundays. We need to go back to those days.

the trshack is right on this one! I can remember growing up in Van Wert NOTHING was open on Sundays or holidays, no stores of any kind except one pharmacy, and these were on a rotation. Then the "box" stores and the supermarkets changed it all. just another way to undermine family life, really, Sunday was observed by everyone at one time, now, compare the fifties with today! makes me yearn for back in the day. lol

Amen! I was going to say the same thing about Sundays! Good grief, it's one day, surely we can go that long without shopping!

We are a 24/7 country/world now. It's called evolution. The demand is there and they meet that demand. Before I was married I was alone. No family or anyone. Christmas and thanksgiving seemed to drag so long. I would go to McDonalds and drink pop just so I wouldn't be alone. I would volunteer to work every holiday my company was open just so I wouldn't be alone. There are people out there who are alone.
if you were volunteering then you were not alone, so you are saying because you were alone at one time in your life, stores should be open 24/7 to disrupt the lives of those workers who have family, believes, a NEED to have a decent work schedule that provides decent breaks with their family? Just because it exits doesn't mean it's best, it just greed fueling our society. Go to Israel, or other countries, who have REAL weekly rest days and holidays, it works, and no one whines because they can't go to mcdonald's.

whoa, I disagree about the stores being open, but, I think the poster is here to state their opinion, just like us, that why it's called a forum.

Yeh back in the 1970's we could send our kids to school without the threat of them being shot while they were there. I'm all for closing stores on Sunday. Get back to the basics. If people can not live without stores being open one day a week than I would say they are pretty helpless and pathetic. Get a ife people.

If you work in retail (stores and restaurants) or transportation (bus, train and cab operators) or hospitality (hotels and hospitals) or police and fire you should expect to work those days. If you don't like working those dates get into a different line if work.
there is no real need for anything other than emergency response personel to be working, and in the past these folks were rotated on a fair basis, not what you have today.

Are you really arguing about stores being open on Xmas? They all should be open IMO if they want to. It's just like the whole no liquor sales on Sunday thing. Why not?

No, that's not the problem. Everyone isn't Christian. I'm an Atheist. I know a few Muslims. I know a few Jews. Religion is the problem.
