I know the saying has always been "innocent until proven guilty", but it's more like guilty till proven innocent. I bet every student, parent, and faculty member thats ever known her, I bet their jaws are still on the floor, and they cant come up with the words to say or think about this situation. Mrs Garcia is the last one i'd ever suspect of doing anthing like this. but I guess when you live on a t-bone steak diet on a ground beef hamburger budget, you gotta take it from somewhere. she probably thought she'd never get caught!

Words of wisdom from Jason. Hope those prayers are something along the lines of...."make $7500 dollars appear".

Why send her prayers. Should she not be punished to the full extent of the law? The same way the murderers are. Is her crime less illegal than anyone else's. Max out her punishment and let the community know that she is supposed to be a role model, not a criminal

It's sad to say that after reading this and reading the comments made, that people are STILL so judgemental. I know things happen that some of us can not believe let alone would we EVER imagine happening. However it's HORRIBLE that those of you who posted after Kim would say such things. I say this because I had her as a teacher. As a matter of fact, she was my teacher last year. She is an individual that I looked up to and an individual I still look up to. If it wasn't for her, my transition to Van Buren High School would not have been as easy as it was. It hurts me as a Van Buren student for this to be said. In my family and in my life I have been through enough to understand that life is unfair and complicated at times, and we, and I mean every one, has to keep looking at the good in life. I in no way believe Mrs. Garcia did this. I will admit that it is possible, because EVERYONE MAKES MISTAKES, but as of now there is NOTHING that says to me she did this or ever would. Each individual is innocent until proven guilty. To the person who responded," if she is innocent, then why turn herself in" well to that I say this, Sometimes its easier to be the First to say something to show you having nothing to hide. If YOU were charged with a crime you never had anything to do with and were innocent would you turn yourself in when a warrent was put out for your arrest, or would you run? Running from the law tells me and most likely others that the one running is the one that is guilty. If it was me in her shoes, and I was innocent, I would turn myself in. I know how it is to be accused of something and it not be true. I know how it is to take blame for something you never did. I say this as a VAN BUREN HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT and VBHS JROTC CADET, I SUPPORT MRS. GARCIA and will not stand to believe this till evidence to prove that Mrs. Garcia ACTUALLY STOLE this money is provided. My prayers go out to her and her family.

back in 2003 when I had her as a teacher, she looked alot more "heavy". that mug shot pic is one for the ages, kinda makes me wonder how she lost so much weight! she was definately a teacher that loved to show "favorites" even back then. On the video clip, the 5news reporter says more than $9,000 is missing. I dont feel sorry for her, but I kinda feel sorry for her daughter. Must be horrible what she has to go thru at school after her mothers face is plastered all over the news. how does she explain this to her daugther. to heck with her husband, he was probably helping her do it all!

Do those of you posting on this not read your own words or think before you even post them. SCHOOL is not perfect. TEACHERS are not perfect. STUDENTS are far from perfect. I know that maybe some of her students didn't maybe get as much attention, but in a way inidividuals blame the wrong person. She was an Oral Communication teacher. If you were quiet in her class, didn't care to put any effort into class projects, if you use poor language skilss, were rude, late class, or were disrespectful in her class, then its not her fault. But what all of you need to understand is some of you don't even know her. Some of you are only seeing one part of the story and then writing your own. As far as her playing favorites in class, what teacher isn't guilty of that, what STUDENT, or EMPLOYER isn't guilty. A math teacher is going to favor the ones who are talented in that area. Science teachers will enjoy talking and favor those who show an interest in science. History will favor those who love to learn about history in the world. English teachers will favor those who love read and are incredible writers. Students will favor those who are more like them and have the same things in common. Employers will favor those who are best at the job. I guess my point is that just because she may have favored doesn't mean she is any worse then any teacher in VBHS. I do feel sorry for her daughter, but if VBHS is truly as great of school as we it is, then WE will be there to help in any way possible...

A teacher that is not honest? Can't be. The investigations must have been flawed. It must be the dirty cops and the dirty PA that have laid this at a teachers feet. Teachers are the hardest working, sweetest, most honest people you would ever meet. Just leave God out of it all. The cops have nothing, the PA has nothing, She is a teacher. Leave her alone.

First, and foremost, I was honored to have Mrs. Garcia as a teacher all throughout high school. I had her for Journalism I and then for Journalism II (newspaper). My senior year, I was the editor of the VBHS newspaper. I worked closely with Mrs. Garcia, and I learned so much from her. She taught the principals of print journalism, and she laid the foundation for the rest of my life. I came to Missouri State University and majored in print journalism, and I am now three weeks away from moving to Chicago to work for a national publication. Mrs. Garcia took an interest in me, and, I admit, she was hard, but it was because she cared. Not only was she my teacher and mentor, but she was, and will always be, my friend. I still keep a framed photograph of the two of us that was taken at graduation on my desk. Mrs. Garcia and Mrs. Davis were the only two teachers that truly believed in me, and I owe so much to them. She is innocent until proven guilty, and that is the law. And, just so you know, Mrs. Garcia has had some major health issues over the last several years. The comments about her weight are totally out of line. Two things: "Judge lest you be judged" and "He is that without sin cast the first stone."

I had her for a teacher 10 years ago. I believe she is capable of doing something like this, I just wonder, really how long this has been going on??? Did she take from our yearbook sales???? Hmm, I am just glad her daughter is grown.

Thank you Kyle and Haylee for your input. You obviously are very mature for your age. Although nothing shocks me anymore in our society, I still realize that there are always two sides to a story and people are quick to judge and criticize people they barely or don't know at all. I do hope that the charges are a mistake for both Ginger and her daughter's sake, but if she is guilty, then let justice be served. However, we shouldn't use speculative slander for an excuse to lash out at teachers or anyone else. Slander can happen to even the best of people and could even happen to those of you who choose to slander others!

I am not surprised at all. A teacher's positive impact on a particular student does not make negligible her other crimes. This has been going on for years. Imagine how much money the authorities don't know about! She most likely turned herself in because she was on probation anyway for the earlier "incident." I certainly feel sorry for her embarrassing.

You are right. A teacher's positive impact on a particular student does not make the teacher innocent if they are truly guilty. However, just because one may have had the teacher does not give the former student a right to say how long this may have or may not have been going on. There is no evidence stating this has been going on for years, if it had been, the authorities most likely would already know. Those of us on here do not know if this is true. We do not know if it has happened in the past. We (everyone) have no right to say that she has done this for years. There is no reason for anyone to say she turned herself in because she was on probation. If she was, she would not have been put in charge of yearbook profit.. let alone be teaching at VBHS. There is no account of another incident. She did have a positive impact on me, and many others. That is why I hope this is not true. But we all make mistakes, we are all guilty of something in life. If she did, by chance, do this, than the law will handle in the right way. I personaly believe that what all of us are doing right now is horrible. We are talking behind someones back. Some are judging... some are saying things that are not even true... WE HAVE NO RIGHT TO JUDGE SOMEONE ELSE... EVEN IF WE DO KNOW THEM.. IF you do not know what happened, don't write your own story. If you do not know every detail, don't fill in the blanks with what you "think" may have happened. If she did do it, she will have to face the punishment, but you need to let the law handle it... if she didn't do it then you need to let her move on with her life... Her daughter is strong and sweet and very nice. I do feel sorry for her, but I know she will be fine. I know her and I know she can make it through anything life throws at her..
