Not a thing wrong with our new sheriff. Just some griping from people who'd like the "good old boy" system.

The incumbent sheriff has never ran his office. I went there to get fingerprinted for a concealed carry license and the prisoner called "Goober" seemed to be the one in charge. Ironic how the sheriff kicked him out a few months prior to the election. Especially ironic seeing how he so vehemently defended him being there to everyone at Floatstream. Why did he finally kick "Goober" out I wonder. Maybe no one is asking the right questions. I know, lets all go down to the sheriffs office and ask the captain himself. Oh wait, he would just lie about that as well.

P.S. I checked casenet and good old boy "Goober" is still facing charges. That's right, he wasn't there because of that. The "feds" wanted him in "protective custody" and only the sheriff could do that. Guess they caught all the bad guys they were protecting him from. Or maybe it was just another in a litany of lies from the sheriff.

Trustees are always used to help out in the office.
If the"Feds" wanted him in protective custody, they would be the ones to release him. The Sheriff's jail is a holding agency for city state and federal. Prisoners, for which the county is paid.
Easy to criticize when all the facts are not known, only guessed at. Perceptions are deceiving.

No Mr. Hern I am not the Reporter. A kindred spirit perhaps. We do seem to share certain ideological philosophies regarding the incumbent sheriff and his method of doing things. Mr. Hern I have the utmost respect for you and your opinions just as I do for the Reporter. That said I must question your motives for defending the sheriff. In the past you have said something regarding individuals in the public eye being scrutinized.(I apologize if that is not an exact quote.) I agree wholeheartedly with that, however at some point Mr. Hern doesn't a sane reasonable person have to take a step back and wonder if there is not some degree of truth to all the "rumors". Too many people have been lied to and mistreated by the sheriff and the deputies on his watch. That needs to change. I have heard some say the sheriff needs more time to "fix" Carter County. If he isn't doing a good job now why would we allow him to continue down this path.
P.S. Let's not forget the only reason he was even afforded the opportunity to play sheriff is because Mr. Stephens had not lived in the County for the required time.(Although he had been working here for a quite awhile with no complaints.)

Mr Smith,

Please allow me to thank you for all the flowers.
You make many very cogent
arguments . Allow me to
say that I agree most of the time with both you and Mr. Reporter.
To keep the debate going, at times I have taken an opposite view. The devil's advocate , if you will.
However , my view is from a little different angle.
Why do I support the present administration of the Sheriff's Office? May I explain that I feel very strongly (having worked as a Reserve Deputy) that it is not so much the person who is The chief administrator who holds the office, But the OFFICE it's self that deserves everyones respect for the office is mostly what I am all about. It really bothers me to read about things people say they know are facts, when I know they are either mistaken or just speaking untruths.

IE:
The bank job:
Does anyone know that the office had not been told to watch out for bank robbers that may be working the area?

The dog mapping:
How many times have you seen dogs dropped off or just lost, because of compassion for animals you try to help them, someone's beloved pet.

Not answering call on time:
Priorities have to be assigned to calls when you have such a small department. You can't leave an investigation into a meth lab to go catch. a kid speeding around town.
There are many, many more, that I could use.
This has been a most enlightening debate, my fondest wish is that I have helped to afford some other views, and opinions.

For my part, thank you for your input.
Statements like yours. Waist your time and everyone else's. Where does it fit in?
But thank you at least some of my thoughts might just rub off, however I really doubt it.
