A group of us locals drove down to the Landing to rent some tubes. We don't get to float much so renting is the best way for us. We knew how much it would cost so had no surprises there. What we didn't like was when we were unloaded at the river another bus was there unloading people with tubes (not from Landing). The cheesy driver of our bus said " anyone got a camera? Our boss said to video this mother f;$);r if we catch him hauling floaters ". That was very uncomfortable to our group and no one provided him with a camera. We put in at same time as those floaters and they were very nice people. We discovered the wife of the owner of Big Spring Motel had several coworkers up for a float trip. They brought their own personal tubes. We let them know what the Landing driver said and that we did not agree with this greedy mentality. Mr. Landing, I know our small group of nine won't hurt you but our business will go elsewhere on the future. As well as anyone and everyone we talk to. Are you so greedy that you instruct your staff to take videos of floaters that don't use your services? I tend to think you are. We don't think your driver would have made a scene as he did without your instructions to do so. Our clan will not use your establishments for any reason and will make sure these actions on your part are well publicized. You are wrong for engaging your employees to promote your greedy ways. Shame on you. At least don't enlist your customers in the future.

In response to this. The other bus that wasnt The Landing the guy doesnt pay for the right to use those put in points. It is a FEDERAL OFFENSE to use a shuttle service that doesnt pay for that right.

Are you telling us that every person using their own pick-up, van, car, to haul family up river to float, is committing a federal offense? Maybe you are a Bedell or one their employees, trying to scare people.

It is only illegal if he rented them tubes and charged a fee for driving them. There is no law that states only those with permits can put in at certain places. The Landing doesn't like anyone using private tubes.

That's exactly what this idiot wants you to believe. It is federal property. They must pay for the right to use those areas BECAUSE they take money from the customers to rent tubes and transport to the drop off areas. The other man does NOT charge for this service. Those people were his friends and relatives. It was a private party! Bedell's are mad because they didn't get to squeeze another dollar out of the group. In fact, they didn't earn a dime from them as they didn't use one bit of their services. And now, they are going to lose more business for their greedy mentality. Some of their employees are willing to testify how they are told to video private vehicles carrying their own tubes. Do they think they are not in America anymore? The public is not as ignorant to the laws as the Bedells think they are. Your greed will bite you where it hurts the most---the Bedell pocket book! You have pi$$sed a lot of people off over your greediness.

That is not what I said. If you could understand English. Which is doubtful. Anyone in a personal vehicle can do whatever they want. But when you charge is when u are comitting the crime.

I was one of the guests on the "other mans bus". I am so mad about how this man was treated when he let us off on the river. The bus driver from the landing snnounced he was going to video us getting off our bus with our own tubes. He did this in front of the customers on his bus and they were mad about it also. They said he acted like he would get merits for providing proof to his boss for capturing this on video. Wow! What's wrong with the Landing? We were all coworkers just having a day of fun on the river. We brought our own tubes and our boss's husband took us to the river on his bus. NO CHARGE for anything. His wife is our boss and she was with us!! They did this our of friendship and generosity. Doesn't sound like the Landing owners know about that kind of service. I heard today that the Landing turned him into the park service and he was harassed for carrying his friends to the river. I, my coworkers involved, their friends and family, and anyone else they come in contact with will never grace the threshold of the Landing property. The original poster was correct: YOU ARE GREEDY!

YOU are the one who is clueless. That man never charged us a dime to take us to the river! I know you must be one of the Landing owners to put something on here without knowing the facts! We were his wifes coworkers on an outing. He even took us out and paid for our food at Jolly Cone afterwards. He was just being nice and that must be a concept you are unaccustomed to. Try it!

It would probably cause you great mental anguish to learn that I do speak and understand English. Spanish also. In fact I do have a collage degree, but, it is not in understanding the Bedell greed. The Current River was not created just for their profit margin. I'm sure they would be happy if everyone but their customers was bared from the river.

I also am a coworker invited by Jim's wife (my boss) to go on a float trip sponsored by them. It cost us nothing. We brought our own floats and some of us borrowed some of their tubes, again we paid nothing. Mr Landing owner, you have cost yourself some business. You should not have treated Jim that way for being a nice host. You ought to try it sometime. Actually giving instead of receiving. Jim is one of the most generous persons I have met. He even paid for a stop at the Jolly Cone when he picked us up from the river. Have you ever considered doing anything like that for others that are not in your bloodline? Giving something away rather than seeing how much you can take? I have never heard Jim speak badly about you or your business, in fact, he referred one of my friends to your restaurant recently. You have crapped in your nest Mr Landing owner. I'd rather keep Jim as a friend on my side. He'll defend you to the end. Crap on him and he'll make sure everyone he meets knows his opinion. You really need to stop asking the yahoos working for you to gather your information. If it is so important to you to know Jim's business, just ask him. He'll tell you like it is. As things stand now, I'm joining in with avoiding your establishment until I hear that Jim has been apologized to. I know this won't break your bank, but if you had a way of knowing how many customers will avoid you in the future, I'm sure you would be quite surprised. My husband and I are worth about $100 month that will not be coming your way. We eat there once a month and that's our average bill. I know that is not a drop in your bucket, but we don't intend to stop there. We will not contribute to your selfishness. SHAME on YOU!

they don't want to tell you where you can float to and from....they just want you to stop by their toll booth and pay them before you float. They bought the tubing vendors, and somewhere in the fine print, they thought it meant they now own the river!! Right? And he will kiss your white hillbilly ass...if you pay the fee!

I get my own tube and pay my buds gas to take me. SOOoooo anyway. Try Cataract landing to Grubs landing and you will have the best relaxing float with only one stand up and carry point in the whole river. Been up there 3 times already going to go get me another float in. The south really has some emotionally inept characters here.

The Landing pays a large fee to help maintain put in and take out points as do all concessioners on the upper and lower Current and Jacks Fork. All you whiners looking for a free ride will always find one and will bitch about business owners who are paying taxes and keeping everything up. Shut up and enjoy river and keep your hand out and your tin cup rattling. Geez. Business owners are the backbone of this country fools. If they all threw their hands up and quit you guys would truly be screwed. My hats off to all the business owners in this area that provide jobs and benefit our community with tax dollars that pay for many things.

Every property owner in Carter County pays taxes that help maintain the public roads going to the river . They do so without making a penny profit. The fee the Landing pays is nothing compared to the profit they make. Whose Gold Cup is rattling??

I might know a little something about those concession fees that Watching just spoke of and its a load of crap that these fees "maintain the put in take out points on the river". Truth is that the fees from every tube/canoe rental from Akers Ferry to Doniphan would not amount to enough to repair all the damage done to river access points each spring from ONE flood much less multiple floods/maintenance and NPS employee payroll. Watching would have you believe that if they went out of business then the river and town would be screwed. This is just not true, the river is a jewel like the Grand Canyon and it is actually your Federal taxes that pay for these beautiful places upkeep NOT the Micky Mouse fees that the rentals pay. The canoe/tube rentals use infrastructure such as roads and river access points of which the bulk of is payed for by common taxpayers NOT the money grubbing rental owners. The river will be maintained by the NPS long after these parasites are gone. Subsequently tourist will still visit and money will flow into local businesses. Perhaps even more money will make it into local business owners hands when our tourists pocketbooks have not already been raided by canoeing fees, overpriced food and cheap beer. I for one would like to see a higher caliber of tourist visit the river than the knuckle drag types from the Bootheel that canoe/tube rentals seem to attract.

To the contra. The thousands of people who come here each weekend do not come here for or because of the landing. They come here for the river. They would come whether the landing was here or not. They go to the landing, give them their money to float(of which does not include any taxes), get on the river, float and have fun, get off the river, get in their cars and go home. The majority do not spend money anywhere else in this area. They fill up their cars before coming and eat somewhere down the road on the way home. The people who stay at the landing usually eat at the landing. And now I hear that the landing wants a portion of the sales taxes coming in from other businesses to develop MORE! Excuse me, but I believe enough is enough!

the landing toy understanding is supposse to give the Park Service 50cents per tube Rental (correct me if im wrong) but if the NPS would put someone one there and each of Bedells Sub rental places to collect for one weekend just to see what is rented.they would see how much He (Bedell) cheats them out of! I personally think its pathetic how He (Bedell)gets away with what he does..although in this day and time you can pay a Parkie to do Your bidding and turn a blind Eye!!!!!just saying
