No, I am not the High Sheriff.
Yes, I read the letter.
Good work on the part of the citizen.
Would that we all could solve the trespasses against us,as quickly and efficiently as he did. There are factors that he could use, that are not available to the Law Enforcement, but I doubt that if I explained them, to you, you would accept them. Search Warrant. for one, probable cause for another.

No Mr Hern, I never really thought you to be the Sheriff. It was just my way of trying to add humor to a sad situation. There is really no doubt that you do have a connection to the local sheriffs dept. You spend an awful lot of time defending them. You would never be convinced that the present sheriff would be more in his environment, sitting in a row boat at the county line, waiting for the mexican drug cartel to come steaming up the river. That is his claim. That the cartel and some motorcycle group is moving in. As for his dupities (yes I know how I spelled it), that is the joke of the day. Three of them are shacked up with local pretties. One likes to yell at kids and tell them how tough he is and that he is the most bad man in the county. Have you really looked at the one who thinks that he is Marshall Earp. Tied down pistol, just waiting for the next big shoot out on main street. Some of them dress like they are going out on a big military combat patrol. There is nothing about them that indicates that they are "Professional Police Officers." It has been reported by the sheriff that one of his officers has 16 years of experience and another has 14. Why did they leave these other departments and come to one that until the big raise, was one of the lowest paid in the country. No Mr Hern, I don't think that you are the Sheriff. I give you more credit than that. But, that is what this county wants. It is,has been and always will be the joke of the state as far as law enforcement goes. The Highway Patrol are just Speed Cops. Van Buren PD spend most of their time between the two van buren junctions, being speed cops. The Sheriffs Dept. Well, we have already been there.

I have tried to educate some of the people as to some of the problems that our law enforcement faces. Frankly they all could use our help at times. Easy to criticize hard to offer our assistance.
And no I have no affiliation with any agency in Carter County or the State.
Just attempting to pass on some of the things I learned in my some 15 or so years of volunteering in Enforcement as a Reserve Sgt.Deputy Sheriff in California. I have donated hundreds of hours trying to make my community a better place to live for all of us. Some times I think my efforts fall on deft ears.
Still I'll keep trying to improve things,in spite of the criticism heaped on me.
Last thought: please vote, regardless of who you favor. Remember we choose who we wish to lead us.
And as always, yours for a kinder community.

Oh my, another Californian here to show us the error of our ways and educate us in their ways.
Maybe that is why your efforts fall on deaf ears, or maybe it is the "know more , know it all " attitude?

Maybe I should have added that my wife was born in this area. But thank you for your statement and interest.

P.S. It was not my intention to come across as a know it all do it my way, person.
A. After 15 years I had better have learned the proper and accepted way to preform law enforcement duties.
B. Before you make conclusions you might have read some of my other posts.

No I am not fromCalifornia, lived there for a few years, but was born and raised in the State of New York.
Just a side note: I didn't that " damyankee" was all one word , till I moved Missouri.

Yes the police in Carter County are a joke. You have speed traps in both major towns. You have deputies that are a real joke. If you own a restaurant and give the police free drinks, you don't have to pay sales tax and buy license for your vans and trailers.

Major towns in carter county? The area in VB everyone loves to call a speed trap has several speed limit signs. If you are to stupid to slow down, you deserve a ticket.
You really must be an idiot if you think the police have anything to do with sales tax. Vans and trailers, has to be referring to The Landing. They aren't in the city limits, they don't pay city tax. I may not care for them, but I do know their vans and trailers are licensed. You may not pay sales tax on tubes and canoes, but you do pay on the rooms and in the restaurant.

Come on, Reporter, I thought we had discussed all of this in the recent past.
However, still good to hear all of your thoughts on these Important subjects.
You are a deep thinker.

It's getting closer:

I'm sure you all know who I'm voting for. I think the present High Sheriff should be given more time to get all his ducks in a row.
But in spite of who I'm voting for, let me admonish you all to vote.
Vote for who will do the best job for Carter County and all of us.
Totally, together we will get it done.
All of my support will go to the winner.

If you will notice. Neither of the D or the H were capitalized. The REAL Dick Hern did not post the above.

It isnt the size of a person that counts. I'm sure in her postion she has to use her brain first, but if necessary she could probably take care of herself and you. Don't underestimate someones ability because of their sex. That is sexist and just silly.

<quoted text>I doubt if white power ranger is on the police force. Also, thought power ranger was a lady. Appears to me as though they have a great police force. Very little crime even on the busy weekends when all the rowdies are coming to town.

All jokes aside, next time you see Andy, Gomer, or Goober, tell them how much you appreciate all they do for your beautiful little riverside village. One of the most progressive small towns in the midwest! 0% unemployment unless you count the people who do not want to work. Every town has those types. Super town for hiking, canoeing, fishing, tubing, running, cycling, hunting, gigging, nature study, caving, shopping, strolling, dining, and skinny dipping! Can't say that about very many towns and definitely no cities with so much to offer.

Live music playing almost all the time!

Goin' to the Mercantile for their lunch special today! See ya there in one hour. There salad bar is to die for!!
if you ever lived in that town you would know better if your no born and bread there u dont belong

While I personally have never lived in Carter County, my wife is from there (Ellsinore) and I've passed through Van Buren MANY times and have never gotten pulled over by the Van Buren police. Then again, I always toe the line on the posted speed limits when I'm passing through there. Just don't speed -- problem solved.
