Has anyone had a chance to check out the new trail? Very scenic, but can be challenging for some i think.

Its a piece of crap. They need to tear the trees down, kill the animals in the way and build more houses there.

My Valmeyer neighbors have already had several uninvited and out of town "guests" aka "hikers" showing up in their backyards from the "trail". These people were just wondering around and/or wanting a quicker exit through townspeoples backyards. Please stay out of my backyard, if you are uninvited you are not welcome.

I've walked it a few times. The hills will be tough for some but compared to most trails its pretty tame. All in all its a nice trail with great scenery. It's going take a lot of maintenance to keep it from eroding due to water runoff. But Im sure the Valmeyer city fathers have though that far ahead. Sarcasm intended.
I have also noticed that hikers park on the rode instead of the parking lot. There is no parking on Meyer, but the churches get away with it too, so
just looking

The trail is pretty nice for hiking. Just bring along something in case you encounter a wild animal. I always worried about that up there.

What a waste of Natural Resources. A walking trail? What is this Forrest Park? Or NYC?

REALLY NOW?! A waste?! Do you realize that you can get to the cliffs and edges of the effing bluffs from this great trail? It creates a peaceful, healthy activity for people to partake in rather than sitting in a bar or at home watching TV. Maybe its just my love for nature and disdain for mans encroachment on it that makes me say this, but, Shut the fuck up.

To address the problem of hikers wandering into people's backyards: This is very troublesome, but only to those that refuse to stay on the trail. This only happened to me once, and It was the first time I hiked the trail. If you pay attention, the quickest and less straining way out is to stay on the damn path. It's actually harder to take a "shortcut" up the hill.

I can understand that if people continued to do that it would be annoying, and possibly creepy.. but that sounds like a problem with the individuals, not all the hikers.:p Just dont do anything ridiculous in a yard with no privacy fence?

The only time I stray off the paths is when I mushroom hunt and its never near anyones homes. Yeah u have to be in shape to hike the hills, but some of the best views are on the tops in the glades. And every now and then I like to eat the trippy shrooms and walk around all over back there.

My point being is, not all of us are queer nature trail walkers. I like to hunt. And until they open it up to hunting then it is a waste of tax dollars in my eyes.

I am surprised that you say there is no parking on Meyer! Where is the sign? I certainly have not noticed it. I park on Meyer quite often and have never seen this sign!

The parking is in the St. Johns church parking lot and the trail starts at the front of the woods. Its a big sign facing meyer.

Meyer and Woodland ridge are collector streets. In other words they are designed to handle traffic coming into and out of town and connect to the accessory streets. The town bylaws state no parking on these streets. The township officials elect not to enforce these rules except sometimes on the bridge. There are no signs but the laws are on the books. There are many laws/rules in the Valmeyer codes which are not enforced, i.e. sinage restrictions, fences around pools, RV parking, out buildings, landscaping restrictions, curfews, trespassing on certain properties, public requests for bids for city projects, etc......

How can someone know there is no parking on Meyer and Woodland Ridge, when there are no signs stating such? If they have the rules, but don't post signs, there is no way they can enforce that rule. Typical Valmeyer......nobody wants to hurt anyone's feelings....so they make rules and write codes, etc. but won't enforce them. Then, the people who want to keep their homes nice have to put up with the neighbor who won't mow their lawn because there won't be anybody enforcing the rules, for example.
