Wal-Mart pays $2M, avoids charges in death probe

Full story: WHEC-TV Rochester, NY

Wal-Mart will pay nearly $2 million, including $400,000 for victims' compensation, and improve safety at its 92 New York stores to avoid criminal charges in last year's trampling death of a temporary employee at a Long Island store.

being white has nothing to do with it...wasn't Wal-Mart's fault to begin with and in my opinion they should not pay anything...sue the people who ran him over...there is no reason for people to be that ignorant to the point of trampling someone to get some special deal....day after Thanksgiving sales should be suspended...no reason for it

I feel Walmart and all other retailers could at least advoid this by offering the specials all day as opposed to the hours they already set, maybe then you would not see such a huge crowd that killed this infortunate person and injured others. Unfortunately, this is just another corporate in America wanting your money to keep their lives lively.

I couldn't agree more. This guy went and opened the door as he did every morning. How is it anyones fault other than the people that created the stampede? Even if walmart had 15 people there it would have been the same. I don't even like walmart, but I fail to see where their at fault.

What does being white have to do with the story.Sucks that is all you ever have to say.Walmart should take care of the persons' family that got killed. Bad secruity and animals are to blame here.

I guess I think both Walmart and the crowd are responsible for this poor man's death. If Walmart saw the crowd growing and getting antsy waiting by the doors, maybe they could had done something before they opened the doors. Maybe they should of recognized a problem brewing? I don't know, I have never shopped on Friday after Thanksgiving so I really don't know how bad it is. But definitely shame on that crowd for caring more about getting that TV or computer on sale than a person's life.

We would not have incidents like this if we put the CHRIST back in Christmas. It is way too commercial.

You don't think there would be more of a public outcry for the D.A. to follow up on charges against WALMART, if it was a nice loving white man with a family that dearly misses him????
What if it was a white 13yr old girl???
