Does anyone know what happens if you have to go to court fir your child being truant.
Even if he's a senior and 18.
Do they still hold the parents responsible?

I don't know , I wouldn't think so but I would call his high school attendance counselor tomorrow and explain the situation , and tell them you send him to school. If they can do anything to you that's crazy. I know it would be hard but you may have to take a no control order out on him. Best wishes to you.

Sadly enough its been a BAD yr. Had to put down our dog only 5 yrs. old (cancer) same wk had stomach flu he's run outta gas on way to school gauge don't work right then the flu there have been days he should have been no excuse other than running late and would end up in isap if he went in tardy .
I sound like I am making excuses but not really he's a good kid I just really think this is a bunch of bull shi* they care more about attendance than a education
he said its his responsibility not mine he's the one that screwed up its a shame court has ro handle it rather than a school counsler.

Yeah it's sad but its all about the money. Pretty bad when the most part our children are dollar bills instead of students. Not all teachers are that way but the ones that are make the good ones look bad.

Wrong. The "child" is now an adult and responsible for himself and, quite frankly, can quit school on his own accord at any given point.

Nothing will happen in truancy court.

ok but he is 18. You can't make him do anything that he doesn't want to do. They might withdraw him from school, but I don't know. The parent said that they have had some hardships and that he has some good qualities . Maybe the court should take that into consideration .

Hate to break it to you, but I been there done it, the mother or father will be the one to get in trouble! I went through this just last year with my oldest daughter. Who was 18

Wow that is a crazy law. Things have changed and not to the good. You would think if a person is old enough to go to the service or get a job, they could be old enough to go to school or not. I bet the courts wouldn't get involved if a kid joins the service or decides to get a job somewhere the. Parent doesn't approve of. That's a double standard!

Wrong. There's absolutely NO WAY that a parent is held accountable for another adult's decision not to attend school. There is NO law that mandates that an 18 year old attends school.

I wish they would simply handle this in a less agressive manner. The kid will likely graduate if he is not ruffled too much. The truancy court can not charge the pupil or the parents after he turned 18. Threaten him and his parents with fines and watch him dropout. Kentucky does not need that!

I've come to the conclusion that for the most part the state doesn't care about anyone or anything except make a buck at someone else's adspence . Whether the parent or child , they don't care who they throw under the bus.
