The latest Wal Mart rumor which happens to be true, is that they are building a new store across from City Hall.

I think you need to watch The Higher Cost of Low Prices. Walmart is a terrible company! All of your local businesses will shut down as they will not be able to compete. So kiss what's left of your little "hometown city" goodbye. Also, they treat their employees badly. They most often feel women aren't fit for management and rarely promote based on that. For this to be the largest retail big box chain in the world they don't even offer health insurance to most. If to want that in Shepherdsville then good luck to you!
If I were you I would just consider continuing to drive to Hillview or Fern Creek and forget about the opening of one in Shepherdsville.
If I still lived there I would be in protest.

You know what? Ask some of the folks that work there how they are treated. I knew a few poor souls and what they experienced wasn't nice. As far as the economy for any town that gets a Walmart, sure i bet business is booming but what about the local business man who has to shut down? You clearly have no concern for the local business man and that i feel is very sad. You really don't have to be a nasty asshole about it. You have an opinion and I have mine it's not a complaint that I saw. Looks like you need to be re-educated on the difference. Look it up in a dictionary, opinion vs. complaint. I was voicing an opinion not a complaint to help show things from other angles not one. I'm quite a debater and can handle criticism with ease but when you come off acting like a jerk and your second word is distasteful as my asshole comment above its very petty of you hence my rant here. Gotta love closed-minded Bullitt County folks. That's why I'm embarrassed to say I grew up there for 18 years. I'm sure glad I was taught to have morals and think for myself.

You're thinking Wal-Mart is the answer to no cashiers? You've obviously never been in a Wal-Mart.

You don't go to Wal-Mart because you think you're going to get good service. You don't go there because you think it's going to be a quick checkout process.

You go there because all you care about is the lowest price. You care that a company will cut the throats of the suppliers, the environment, it's own workers and even you... all in the name of delivering something for a couple pennies less than the next guy.

I'm not sayin'... I'm just sayin'.

You know what? Nobody makes them work for walmart. I doubt it's true about them coming to shepherdsville, but I hope it's true. As far as the other businesses if they can't compete let them go under ( like what lowe's did to stouts.)

Melvin, you need a Melvin for that comment. "If they can't compete let them go under" you obviously don't understand small business strategy. You know why they can't compete? Use your head to figure that one out. I'm not giving you all the answers because it doesn't seem as though you use I often enough and I think you could use a good challenge.
I for one buy local if at all possible. I guess I can contribute that to my education and willingness with hard effort to obtain a really good job while I know not all can but those of us who support local businesses do it because we know the blood, sweat and tears one puts in to being a small business owner to leave to their families once they pass. I also do it because the way I was raised with morals and integrity. My grandfather was a very reputable man of Shepherdsville and LJ and was known very well amongst others. In his day this is what was right and In this day Americans are too greedy. That is the issue we face.
And you are right. Nobody made these people I know work there but I know for a fact know they gained employment there because at the time that's all they could get. Sometimes you have to swallow pride as these folks did and work there. But you can bet as soon as something else came a long they hopped on the opportunity and were out.
I guess Wal Mart would fit in out there though for most, not all. Please visit the people of WalMart site and you will know what I mean. But I doubt it will happen. Local business men and women fought it before and they will again. Through previous experience enough public outcry will cause this to be tied up in a zoning/fiscal court for a few years. You all don't want warehouses that can create several thousands of jobs and economic growth in an area that has not grown but you want to put a Walmart employing a couple hundred in the middle of Shepherdsville. Pathetic. However, as hard as I'm trying I do respect your opinion.

Couldn't have said it better myself. The times I've been in a Walmart there are about 3 cashiers to about 200 people plus shopping. Kroger needs competition the other person posts? How about a Valu Market. Often lower prices and is a locally owned establishment.

We will get one. It may take a while but at the rate bullitt county has grown its just a matter of time. I don't know why the people that hate walmart want a meijer. Their just as bad and have a lot higher prices.

Great! Now Shepherdsville residents won't have to travel so far to buy all their meth making supplies at a low low price!

Gross, I'll still drive to Louisville and shop at Meijer and Target. WalMart sells nothing but cheaply made JUNK. I can spot an outfit bought at WalMart from a mile away and that is NOT a good thing.

I was at Meijer and WalMart over the weekend. The shoppers at Meijer were not nearly as ugly as the WalMart shoppers. I think the ugliest WalMart shoppers are at the one on Outer Loop.

That's a bit sexist don't you think? Where I work there are a lot of women in management and they do a damn fine job! I'm sure you're just trying to get something started but come on now. The meth part I'd have to agree with you there. There are a lot of crankster gangsters that would love a Walmart, I'm sure of it.

There is also some of us that don't have a clue about what a ( crankster gankster ) even is that would love a walmart just because its cheaper. As far as the people working there being ugly who gives a rats a ss. As long as they do their job who cares. Unless you're a pervert you don't go there to check out all the women anyways.
