If that is not exciting enough, come to Louisville, drive west on Broadway, stop at 28th street. Walk west,,, you will have an exciting encounter with the native wild life before you reach 34th street.

Haha! That's great! probably better count on *running* and not hiking in that case.
Bernheim and Jefferson Memorial Forest are good local options. If you are willing to drive a bit, Natural Bridge State Park and Red River Gorge offer some amazing hiking trails.
