You're assuming that without a military, the US and the several states would become unsafe. Which is kind of ironic, considering the founders of this country made our constitution law to protect citizens from the federal government and the president's military.

Without the militia's (military) that they put together our constitution would mean nothing because Great Britian would have came in destroyed our rebellion real quick and we would still be part of England. If we didn't have a military why would any other country not come in and take us over? They would instantly.

Nope, they wouldn't just come over take the country, not with almost one gun per person in private ownership in the US.

Thanks to the National Defense Act of 1916, if our country was to become swarmed with Russian and Chinese paratroopers, I can open up my gun vault an arm 10 of first illegal immigrant men that want to fight as militia against the invaders and my action would not called into court later because my action would be within the law:

"The militia of the United States shall consist of all able-bodied male citizens of the United States and all other able-bodied males who have or shall have declared their intention to become citizens of the United States, who shall be more than eighteen years of age, except as hereinafter provided, not more than forty-five years of age...."
