Seems to be a bit of exageration... I subscribed to Phenix City Cable around 20 years ago and had no problems with the service.

Short answer, YES!
That being said they posted to there Facebook back in September that they are working on upgrading there infrastructure and available Internet speeds. It's nice to see they are finally taking steps to make the service better. How much better and how long until then is yet to be seen. As of now they're well behind the rest of the world. I'm guessing since they're deciding to upgrade there must be some cable competition on the horizon. What I'm curious to see is how much of an upgrade in speed this is going to be. Also how much this upgrade is going to cost. Seeing as other cable company's are offering 20+ Mbps for the same price we pay for 6 Mbps. It amounts to about $10 per 1 Mbps download. If they stick with that pricing not many will be able to afford these upgraded speeds.$200 a month for 20 Mbps down. If they even do that big of an upgrade which I doubt. Time will tell.

I'm friends with several employees at Phenix City Cable, and they assure me that they're working at getting things more up to speed.

Well next time you talk to one of these several employees ask them if they have any information as to how much they're going to upgrade. Or that maybe they could update their Facebook more often with more information. It's nice that they are using social networking to communicate some what with their subscribers but it would be nice for more frequent updates and more details. The status update concerning the upgrade was posted in September and nothing else has been said about it.

Don't know why I'm surprised but guess what? Still no update directly from them about the upgrade since September. I did hear through word of mouth that they recently shelled out the money. Guess they are giving up on Facebook because they don't want to have to keep deleting the comments instead of answering peoples question concerning service or cost.

I haven't had a chance to ask about it yet... I'm not sure if I'm on their Facebook page yet or not.

This is the worse cable company I have ever had to deal with, there is NO customer service because they know there are no other cable companies in Phenix City. If another cable company would come to the city, EACTV would be put out of business real quick. Everyone I have talked to has had many issues with the way they do business. I have dealt with several other cable companies and never had any issues like I have had with EACTV, sad they can do customers the way they do and get away with. There is room for growth in Phenix City for cable if there was competition because more people could afford it and not be held up by EACTV's prices. I can not believe they have gotten away with this crap for so long.

I've heard, but haven't confirmed, that the reason EATV is the only service in Phrnix City is simply that no other company has bothered to compete with them.

What I have heard through a friend of a friend is the exact opposite of what you have heard. He works for charter and he says he doubts they will ever be in Phenix City despite the popular rumor. Not because they dont want to be but because they are not allowed to be. As I said this is all hear say, and I work for neither company so I can't confirm any of this.

This is what I can confirm. This company is just not good. Which is very unfortunate for any of us that live in Phenix City. They are very over priced. The quality of the goods you recieve in return for your payment is not good. Their customer support is not good. There is nothing good about this company. At least not at the moment. All we can do is hope they get better because it looks as they will be our only choice for cable for some time to come.

They say they're upgrading their internet. Back in September of 2012 they announced they were in the final phases of determining what technology to use to upgrade their internet speed. Since then they have made no official announcment about this upgrade. They did mention a little more about it in a post. Saying they were in the process of updating at the office and in the field and that they were upgrading service in phases. They also said the upgrades should be done by June 2013 maybe sooner. This post is no longer avaliable because they were quick to delete it when people started calling them out. That's fine and dandy but what they still failed to mention is how this upgrade will work. How much of an upgrade this is going to be, and probably the most important question, is this going to cost us even more money if want to take advantage of it?

I know you like channel 7 Will Dockery and any and every time someone says something negative about them you take up for them or mention channel 7 and how great it is. However lets be honest do you really think that having that one channel makes up for everything else? You can't honestly think that because of that one channel the crazy prices and overall shotty services are so great. To put this in perspective lets do a pros and cons list.
Pros:
Chanel 7
Cons:
Price: For basic cable and 6 meg internet is it is going to run you over $100 a month.

Picture Quality: On a very good day the picture quality is very mediocre. They are severely lacking in HD channels compared to everyone else. The majority of the time the picture is snowy or having some other kind of issue.

Internet: To start with the best and highest speed they over is 6 meg internet which is way behind the times. Then even if you pay for the 6 meg internet you don't get what you pay for most of the time. Its very unstable. Anytime there is a small storm the internet either goes down or slows down. Even when its not storming or raining you have problems. I have had speed test with results as low as 0.09 Download speed and this is something that's not uncommon.

Customer Service: They don't care. They have no competition. If you threaten to leave them so what where are you going to go. They know this. I will admit that since satellite companies have started offering local channels this department has gotten slightly better. It's still a huge pain to get them to do anything about any problem you may have. I have found that pretty much the only way to get in touch with them about a internet problem is to either go down to their office or call when they first open in the morning. Call anytime after that about internet and you're going to get connected to technical support. If they can't figure the problem out for you they say they will leave a message with the office and they will call you back which never happens.

I'm all for supporting a local company. However for the time being there is nothing about this company I wan't to support. Unfortunately I like everyone else has to. I guess the last thing I have to hope for is this upgrade gets finished and implemented and that they don't charge me for it. That and it actually works. It's a long shot but just doing something like that can have a positive effect on their image.

Okay, I apologize for treating the subject so lightly... I do wish I could say better things about the cable television situation in Phenix City, but alas, there are problems.

Hopefully they'll be resolved favorable relatively soon.

If you have a built in HDTV tuner you can go and p/u good HD antenna and try it out. If your happy cancel services and for free you now bring in local channels. 65 bucks for basic is crazy and so now I pull in local channels that broadcast in HD for free. Best buy is where I got the antenna from. You can also hook up the laptop to the tv as well.

Still garbage, though. I've heard rumors from someone that works at "The Citizen of East Alabama" .. that CTVEA is "upgrading" to 15 meg connections for $89.99+other fees/month which of course only comes with basic cable. Yes, you read that right... Go take a look at charter/comcast and compare the two. Less for more, sounds like more of the same screwin' we've been getting for a long time now.

Will, we're very glad that you got amazing service 20 YEARS AGO.... but this company has some serious problems. We know that there is absolutely nothing we can do about CTVEA's hold on the service here... but it's disgusting how they shaft us like this. And it really is a shafting, Will... there's no other way to look at it. I know you love living in Columbus, GA... getting Knowlogy programming while making a financial gain from the 10 or 11 people that watch channel 7... But it's clear that you have no clue about the quality of the service they provide (HERE IN THE 21ST CENTURY AT LEAST). So, Will... If you're just going to continue being a CTVEA fanboy, even when you haven't had the service in DECADES, just stop posting. Or at least stop misleading people into thinking that CTVEA is some great company when it clearly isn't. You make yourself look like some sleazy used car salesman the way you use your shameless plugs.

The person that works for the newspaper next door to CTVEA is basically the same as you. Has friends that work for the company and is financially connected to them somehow... They can do NO wrong. But this person at the paper is completely ignorant to how much people in Auburn, Opelika, and Columbus pay compared to people in Phenix City (for less, i might add).

Anyway,/rant. I have dish/att which blows the doors off CTVEA's garbage 6 meg cable that suffers from constant packet loss. I really feel bad for the people that aren't able to get ATT... It's really a shame.

Not at all... I understand you may have problems with Phenix City Cable, but that doesn't change the fact that there are some good things that company is also doing for the community.

This is the worst service I have ever had, customer service is rude, and what is the point in paying a secondhand company to answer your customer calls, but they can't do anything for you? If I wanted to tell 5 people my problem, I would call 5 friends.

I must also admit I love how my net goes down every night from 8pm to 6am nightly. The threats of charging me because I went over my FBI usage is laughable.

This company is stealing from its customers, and if I knew I would have been so limited on cable/net. I would have moved to columbus.

Will, I enjoy your shameless plugs, but unless you pay 125 a month for basic cable, and basic Internet with this company. Just be a good troll and post your "awesome" links, and hush.
