I had ctvea for about 6 months during there 99 dollar special and Internet was ok for speed but 75gb capped was very annoying half way through the month. You had to start regulating netflix, gaming, and general internet usage to avoid going over.

The TV sucked so bad very few HD channels and the DVR space is very limited... not too mention it just feel like the stone ages. Hello its 2013 the equipment looks like the stuff i had back in 2005!

I am a Direct TV and Excede customer now. Internet still sucks bad but cable is AWESOME!!! We just canceled netflix and the kids can't game anymore online. I really don't care about my money going someplace else instead of to the community since The service they offer is SUBPAR! If they ever offer just Internet I will get it. But the cable system needs a major overhaul.

Anyone hear what their new plan is? More channels and more HD. They're also adding more internet speeds. So now your internet goes from 50 a month to 100. I don't even want to see what it's going to be when they get 30 speed. For these new channels, we have to buy a new box? Or now everyone get's a box? Still don't understand thet part. It's saying September 15? See it to believe it. I bet it's September 15th 2020. lmao

I just moved into the area and have never been so frustrated with a cable company. I have been in the military for over 20 years and have decided to settle close to home. Being the only cable company in this area, Cable TV of East Alabama has a true monopoly going on. Among things that I have found: the customer service reps are extremely rude, the prices versus services is outrageous, they are not accredited by the BBB, have had over 20 complaints in the last 3 years, and I can go on and on. I am wondering has anyone else experienced this. I even considered going to satellite which is viable, but here's where that company makes it impossible for me: in order to get local channels you must get a "lifeline" for Cable TV (which usually costs about $10/mo) they charge $25+ for channels 2 thru 11, then to add injury to insult, I live in a new sub division, so I can not get DSL, but Cable TV does not offer just internet with the lifeline, the smallest pack you can have with the internet costs over $50. They don't even offer that many channels for the price. Compared to Columbus and Opelika. WHERE IS THE COMPETITION TO DRIVE DOWN THESE PRICES? I was told, have not verified but will try, that the owner and the owner of one of the companies in Columbus are golfing buddies and he is getting paid to stay out of Phenix City. So what is a person to do? This is unlike anything I have ever seen. I pay over $125 a month for cable and internet and I don't even have any premium channels.
And be sure and run your internet speed check on a daily basis. They will charge you but refuse to give you the full amount of MBPS you pay for.

I have had east al cable since they changed names several times ( this done to keep out the competition)I started out yrs age on 1/2 mbps and a couple of years ago I contacted the for an upgrade on my internet speed , being internet speed ignorant , I thought well its no faster but its all I can afford at this time. So last week , bought a new souped up computer thinking "boy this will really let me do good stuff. Computer was just as slow as old one . Had repairman out here and I'm still running the 1/2 MB as I was years ago. THE ONLY THING THAT WENT UP WAS MY BILL.,upped up 3 MB , bil is going up but I.m still only running 2.51... Now we know where the owner got all his money . He stole it.

I asked on their facebook about the new channels and they deleted my comment. Go fing figure. I can't wait for Charter to come into the area. They don't ignore their customers because they have to cover up a lie.

Well maybe they should have the dates right before sending out stuff in the mail. Something companies like Charter and Comcast would never pull.

I guess you can consider this a warning of sorts to anyone having the issue I am about to describe.

A couple years back I started having internet trouble. It was horrible and pretty much unusable. Every time I would call CTVEA they would transfer me to Technical Support. Where the guy would tell me to power cycle the modem etc. After they realized this wasn't an issue correctable through a phone conversation they left a note for the main office to call me and schedule of a tech to come out. So a couple days later the tech arrives at my house. He first comes in the house and unplugs every thing from the modem and hooks his machine up to it. He then proceeds to plug everything back up and says everything looks good, let me go check something on the side of the house. He goes outside and comes back to the door about 15 minutes later and ask me to follow him to the side of the house. I notice he has placed several red tags on the coax cables on the house. He looks and me and says there is 37 volts in this line. After a few moments of him saying nothing I say "Okay?". He then tells me there is an electrical problem in my house somewhere. Something is back feeding voltage into the cable line."Like what?" I ask. He tells me that more than likely its one of our receptacles. Either there is a bad ground somewhere or something is wired wrong. So I ask "Okay so what now?". He tells me that I need to get an electrician to come out and find the problem and that there is nothing else they can do until that voltage is gone and then leaves. That same day we called an electrician we knew to come check on it. When he comes and I begin to explain what the guy told me he is just looking at me puzzled. He basically tells me he has never ran into this before and he doesn't really know what to do. He checks the main ground on the house and finds out that it has actually broken and isn't connected to the buried rod. He fixes this and leaves. I thought well obviously had to be the problem and everything would be fixed and working correctly again. I was wrong. The problem persisted. A couple weeks later on my way home I see a CTVEA truck working on one of the poles in the neighborhood and later that day the problem is magically gone and the internet is working as it should once again.

Fast forward until a few months ago. I start having internet issues again after a storm came through. I had just recently upgraded to their new 15Mbps. I call them up and they send a truck into the neighborhood fix something at the pole and viola problem is gone. At least for a couple weeks. For the last few months I have been having a problem where the internet would work decently during the day but go to shit at night. Sometimes the modem would just reset itself every few mins. When the problem first arose we had a lot going on dealing with a death in the family so I wasn't really concerned with it at the time. Last week I finally got around to calling them to get it fixed. They sent a tech out after several calls to tech support. This time around I had a really hard time getting them to actually put in a call for a tech as they had me trying all sorts of off the wall solutions. Finally the tech arrives, he comes in the house unplugs everything checks the modem and says that its fine. Plugs it back up and goes outside. He comes back to the door and says hes going to go check out some of the poles in the neighborhood and comes back about 45 mins later and says I made some adjustments. Keep and eye on it the next couple of days and if the problem continues call us back. So a couple days pass and the problem persist. I call them back this past Monday and tell them they need to send some one out because the last person did solve the problem. Later that day around 7pm the second tech arrives. He comes in the house does the same thing the other guy does. Doesn't see a problem and says hes going to check the side of the house.

After about 15 mins he comes back to the door and ask me to come with him to the side of the house. Alarms ring in my head as I already know what he wants to show me. He begins to tell me there is voltage in the line. 37 volts. I told him I don't think that's the problem because a year ago they told me the same thing and then the problem went away after they did something on the pole. I also said it just doesn't add up. The connection works fine throughout the day but after 8pm it starts messing up. If the voltage was the problem it would mess up all the time. Also the voltage wasn't the problem before. This guy basically says the same thing the guy told me a year ago. We can't do anything else until that voltage is removed from the line. Except this guy says something I have plugged into a receptacle is the culprit. I told him about the modem resetting itself and asked about replacing it. He says if you get the voltage out and are still having problems we can switch it out but until then we can't do anything. He then tells me to go out and buy a multimeter and try and trace the problem down myself. I went out and purchased a new modem instead. I took it to the main office and returned the rental modem that I have had for many years and had them activate my new one. This process didn't go smooth as I ended up having to call them back once I got home because they didn't do something right. Ever since I got the new modem there have been no more problems with the modem completely resetting itself so there was obviously a problem with the modem. However the bigger issue still remains. After 8pm the connection is horribly inconsistent and just unusable if you need a stable connection. I knew the voltage wasn't the issue because if it was it would be 24/7. However today while at walmart I picked up a multimeter so that I could try and trace the voltage problem down so they can't give me that excuse when I call them back out. I got home and being to check the cable. 0 volts. I go through and check a couple different ones. 0 volts. I go outside and check the ones they put the red tags on. 0 volts. So... All along their modem has been the source of the problem causing the voltage to back feed into the cable line. 0 volts and a new modem and yet the problem still persist. Can't to hear the new excuse. Just a heads up. If you start having this voltage problem unplug the modem and get them to test it again.

Rando, that same thing happen to me. They told me that it was an electric problem and there was nothing they could do. They said if it's not an electric problem it's because I need to upgrade my TV's and computers. Finally I switched my computer to a new room and it worked perfectly. They came back out checked something up on the pole and wah la it worked again. It's a very very shady company.

i am moving to phenix city next week and did a lot o research and found out hey are the only decent internet and It is 2x as expensive as what i pay here we have 3 choices. so many rumors that the owner Mr Greene is a big political contributor to the town council and they will not let any other company in no matter how bad the service in. whats sad is they don't care.. I could not find one positive review. Its a shame that one bad business could hinder the progress of such a beautiful town and give the town a black eye.

Well, where to start. I feel like right here in my apartment, I could saw my own toes off, one by one, with a rusty, blunt butter knife, and STILL not feel the pain I've had in dealing with CTVEA.
I just don't know what to do. I've called, and pleaded, and even broke down in tears on the phone with these people about there service, or lack there of. I can't believe how blatantly rude, and just generally uncaring these people are. I've had techs come to the home, bought new equipment, and everything in between. I pay well over $100/month on the services I get from this corrupt business, and I just can't take it anymore. I want to move to Columbus so bad, I can't even see straight.
They constantly tell me that it's either "voltage in the line" or that my equipment isn't up to their software requirements. I have a bachelors in computer sciences, and I know this is all complete B.S!
The only problem, is with the company themselves. They're corrupt "wish-they-were" business people, who only hire everyone in their backwoods, incestuous, shitty-cable/internet providing family. You can see THIS on all of their scrunched up, runny-nosed, bitchy faces.
Why does no one do anything about this? Is it politics? If that's the case, I'LL run for city office. I want these people to be in as much pain as I have been in over the last 9 months. I want them to come to my house and see first hand, the problems I have dealt with. Make THEM live with the shitty connection and other issues I've had to deal with. I'm willing to bet my cable bill 10x over on the question of if they even use their own services. I have a hard time believing that they would if it's as bad as I've had to deal with.
The worst part, they're THE ONLY option. "If you want cable/internet and don't want to use CTVEA, then FUCK YOU." - That should be their slogan, and all across every billboard in the area. I HATE them.
If anyone.. anywhere sees this.. please know, that Cable TV of East Alabama, is by far, the ABSOLUTE, WITHOUT QUESTION, WORST COMPANY IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND! There is not a SINGLE good review on them, ANYWHERE, for ANYTHING! They are corrupt beyond all logical reason. Their services are LESS than sub-par. Their service is complete SHIT! UGH!
As an aside, I would like to say this:
I know, this is a terribly immaturely written post. Certainly not something to expect from a person like me normally. I just cannot help my feelings with this. I seriously can't wait until I get things squared away with my apartment in Columbus. This company, and this company ALONE, have convinced my move. I'll pay the higher tax rate, no problem. I would live in a wooden box, in the middle of the median on I-85, if it meant I could have the peace of mind, knowing that I wouldn't have deal with this company any further. I'm sorry for the extremely long rant, childish nature of the post, and all of the profane language I've exhibited here. Sometimes, it's the only way to truly show the emotions you need to convey. Their company has left me with no other option than to just move. I hate that, as I've lived in Phenix City for the majority of my life. I'm just done.

I've tried looking at AT&T and they say they don't service here with U-Verse. Which would be the only thing worth having from them. I'm paying through the ears for CTVEA for horrible service and slow as all get out internet speeds. Even right now, my internet is OUT, and I'm running my internet off of my cell phone data usage for some work I need to finish.. It's horrible. AT&T only offers 6Mbps at the highest where I live. I want to throw up on Mr. Greene's face.

Maybe someday folks like you and the Mayor can climb off ole Roy`s ball-sack long enough for some real changes to take place with P.C. cable. Like maybe some competition being allowed to enter the market!

I lived in Phenix City for some time and got to experience this company. I have worked in the electronics, electrical, and cabling (Cat5, Cat6, Coax, Fiber) industry for some time. The individuals that you speak with on the phone lack all knowledge and experience in the industry for which they work.

Cable companies install all the wiring for which these connections run. Even if it wasnt for the old and outdated cabling this company is using, the company most likely does not have the proper equipment to provide the guaranteed or even adequate service that you pay for. They save money by not upgrading servers and allowing the signals to be degraded, whilst pocketing all your money. Things like "voltage in the lines" is funny to hear, because the fact is, any signal going through any cable in literally any device has voltage. Without voltage you have no signal lol. Voltage is like the water flowing through a tube. It carries the signal.

The only advice I can provide here is to get out while you can. It took me over 10 years to get out of the area and into Texas. Best decision of my life.
