Hmmmmm, Sam can sure say he was instrumental in this if/when he runs for council. Got my vote.

Bravo Zulu for your dedication to this, and keeping those that are interested informed. So what if we have to dismantle a few wrecks first. it's win/win all around. |

Thanks to Mr. Kurshan, XMI, and all the others writing here in support of MI.
Good job! I believe that Lennar will bend in favor of the drydock use to prevent being tossed out of the game. |

I already have sent e-mails to city council members. Guess who has not responded to my e-mail? Only two have not responded and I can give you a clue, both have been on TV I have also been to many council meetings. They are boring. And I love it when Gomes rolls her eyes and turns her head when she does not want to hear anymore. Sam, you are a good man, but some of the people you support are not doing the right thing for Vallejo. |
Sam - propose we meet tomorrow around 1130 at Sardine Can to discuss MISY |

This is great news for Vallejo, finally! There is still a lot of ex-shipyard talent available that had their careers interrupted by the closure. Man, I hope they will blow the whistle again at start work in the morning. It was the sound of life for Vallejo, quiet too many years now.

I think that Lennar will recognize that this is going to reflect favorably on their public perception. I believe that there is plenty of opportunity on MI for our shipbuilding heritage, commerce, Touro/Seimens project, and housing development once it gets out of the slump. For that matter, with 3 or 4 hundred new employees in the Allied project, some of them may even buy a house over there. |

I think Vallejo will get a lot of help from both the Federal and State governments when the drydocks are finally put back into service. The least the Feds can do is put up some dough for ship channel dredging if MI is going to take some of those heaps off their hands from Suisun. I think the State will expedite all the permitting as well, as indicated a couple weeks ago in the granting of the permit from the Water Board.

Our understanding is that the drydock area from Nimitz Ave to the waterfront in from the building ways to pier 25 was scheduled for turnover to the city sometime in 2008 under LMI's contract with the city. Issues to be resolved apparently relate to progress of remediation. Ultimately this area will be titled to the State Lands Commission with the city as trustee. The US Navy currently retains title to the submerged lands complicating use issues and the dredging processes. Ultimately the submerged lands title will reside with the State Lands Commission once the BCT (Base Cleanup Team) completes all of their studies and environmental cleanup actions. To date no study of the submerged lands sediments has been accomplished and published by the Government. The only sampling I know of was accomplished by the US Army Reserve to dredge between piers 21 and 22. ADR Program Manager |

Here is a link to the State Water Resources Board website and map that shows all of the remediation sites on Mare Island: http://geotracker.swrcb.ca.gov/map/... It appears that the two sites right next to the four dry docks have been successfully cleaned up and their cases closed. The one remaining site close to the dry docks is along railroad ave. at 17th street. I’m actually surprised to see that the dock area had very few areas that needed to be cleaned up. |

The drydocks have never had any "contamination" problems from work processes outside of normal housekeeping tasks during and after a use. They were always certified as "clean" as a prerequisite to the next flooding evolution. There are probably some unresolved issues at the location of the original Paint Shop just East of drydock 2, but the drydocks are ready to use, and Allied is bringing the shipyard back to life. |
