Slain Vallejo man's family will hold fundraiser for his funeral

The family of the man shot dead in a drive-by shooting last week is holding a garage sale Saturday for his funeral expenses.

Mauricio Dominguez, 20, died in the shooting that also wounded an 18-year-old Vallejo man in the 200 block of Arkansas Street in the early morning hours on Oct. 20.

"He was just at the wrong place at the wrong time," a woman who identified herself as Dominguez's wife said.

She said they have a 4-month-old son together.

"It's sad that he's not going to know his daddy," the woman said.

Police said that witnesses indicated that the shooter was associated with a gray or silver compact car leaving the area.

Dominguez's wife said the man was a sociable person, who was very close to his father and loved his baby.

She added that he was hanging out with his friends on the night of the shooting.

Police had said that there are gang-related issues in the neighborhood, but Dominguez's wife said he was not affiliated with any gang.

"There's a big message here," she said. "Spend time with the people who really love you, be careful who you hang out with. It's not worth it."
