A search for a man who was reported brandishing a gun early today led Vallejo police to a kidnapped Oakland woman who said she had been forced into prostitution, police said.
The chain of events began at about 4:30 a.m. when police received a call from a store clerk in the 500 block of Tennessee Street reporting a man was brandishing a gun outside the business, police said.
Prior to police arrival, the suspect, later identified as James Thomas of Vallejo, had reportedly fled the scene in a new white Mustang with paper license plates.
Police said the vehicle's description matched that of a car reported stolen earlier in the week in a carjacking. At that time, a handgun also was stolen along with the car, police added.
After an area search, police located the suspect car in the 300 block of Kentucky Street. Officers saw residents of a house in the area acting suspiciously and set a perimeter around the home, police said.
Soon officers saw Thomas, 31, leave the house through the back window to throw a handgun onto the roof.
Police ordered all occupants to exit the home. Everyone complied except Thomas, police said.
A K-9 dog was then sent into the house, and officers said they found Thomas in the bathroom taking a shower.
He was soon arrested without incident, and police also positively matched the vehicle and recovered handgun to ones stolen in the carjacking.
Police soon learned that one of the home's occupants was an Oakland woman who said she was kidnapped earlier in the week by Thomas and his girlfriend.
Thomas and Xaviera Laney, 20, of Vallejo, allegedly threatened to shoot the victim if she did not prostitute for them.
The victim's identification was not immediately available, but police said she is an adult and had been forcibly kept in the home for a few days.
Laney was subsequently arrested.
Thomas was booked into Solano County jail on suspicion of making terrorist threats, kidnapping, conspiracy, being in possession of a stolen vehicle, forcible pimping, and brandishing a firearm. He was also on parole.
Meanwhile, his girlfriend was booked into the county jail on suspicion of kidnapping, conspiracy and forcible pimping.
